Uninspired Doodles
So I added a gallery. I always said I should save the little drawings I do here and there, usually when I'm supposed to be doing serious work. Some are crappy, some turned out kinda neat (the best ones have yet to be unearthed and scanned). And now I'm sharing them with all of you. Enjoy (I hope).

This vector art is incredible. (Some images NSFW.) God, I wish I could draw like this, digitally or with natural media.

History
When I was a kid, most of the comics I read were bought by my parents, which means I read a lot of Richie Rich and Archie, with the occasional Spider-Man or Superman thrown in (or my favorite superhero, The Flash).

Growing up I gravitated towards stories which utilized visual methods, though of course in school these were discouraged as being "for little kids." (Any book that needs pictures must be inferior, right?) But I continued reading comic strips as voraciously as I could.

The comics boom in the late 80s/early 90s, spurred mostly by the Tim Burton Batman movie, brought me into the comics shops. Not only did I catch up with what had been going on with superheroes in my absence, but I discovered the wide field of non-genre comics.

So I missed out for many years, but I feel privileged to be an avid comics reader when comics are better than they've ever been, across all genres. (Though I admit I still gravitate towards superhero and sci-fi books -- but there's some fantastic work going in those genres right now.)

I keep toying with the idea of trying to write (or, God help me, draw) a project of my own -- but haven't managed it yet, though not for a lack of ideas.

Anybody got any guidance on how to write a comics script?

Mostly random crap I drew while I was supposed to be doing something else. Perhaps I'll eventually add something I drew on purpose.

Jeff is a stand-up guy, and a scholar of things Flash-related. A++.

Sidenote - I hope the comics publishers get on this the way music industry (indie/local and up) has gotten on the other space site.

Thanks for the kind words Andrew. (Though I expect you know more about Flash than I do.)

I was actually talking about The Flash, not software Flash. I was trying to keep my geekery on topic.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I'm often surprised how little people know about The Flash...when I wear my Flash shirt, people smile in recognition and say, "Flash Gordon!"

Then I have to kill them.

So, I saw something on Thursday Morning Quarterback that JSA tied itself into Kingdom Come... do I need to pick this up, now?

I don't think anything ties in directly beyond the Alex Ross panel in the back teaser page.

Of course, KC is a possible future for the DCU, so there could be something coming up. JSA #1 is an excellent read on its own merits -- I resisted it because I didn't want to be caught up in another superhero team book, but I caved, and I'm glad I did. I'll loan it to you if you want, so you can decide for yourself.
