The Autobiography of James Stewart Smith II
Chapter One: "Megalomaniacal Aftermaths of reading Star Comics"
On July 7th, 1977, the rain fell upon the muddy waters at the Ephrata Hospital, and quickly changed to hail. Amidst all this turbulent weather, my body and soul were expunged from the body of 'She Who Came First' and soon after, there was peace in the valley.
A month after my birth, the King of Rock n Roll passed on, some believe to make way for a new King. Being the modest person that I am, I won't dare say that he died to make way for ME, but really, isn't it hard to see it any other way??
Somewhere along the way, I was introduced to my first comic, which was an issue of G.I. Joe. I was Five, maybe Six, at the time, and the comic was very wordy and had little action. I hated it. I soon evolved and became determined to find comics that were perfect, and found what I was looking for in Star Comics, a branch of Marvel Comics. Top Dog was my absolute favorite comic at the time. A guest spot by Spider-Man didn't hurt, that's for sure. I could make excuses for reading such childish fare rather than the macho Super-Hero books you all seemed to grow up on, I could use the excuse that there were no comic book stores where I was growing up (in fact there were several,(one of which has been open since...1977. Again, coincidence? I think not!) but how was I to know at such a young age? Soon, exposure to an eyepatched veteran who fought in World War II and had become an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. would change my little sheltered world...forever!
