That's an interesting point, that the people who buy comics are the same ones who eventually want to create them. There's some truth to that. I personally have tried to 'break-in', but that's like a one in a billion chance, right? Right now, my own creator owned totally independent comic book is being done primarily for 2 reasons: 1) To show that I can actually illustrate a comic book on a regular schedule and 2) to start building a fan base. I figure in this day and age of the internet where anyone can post stuff, I've got to work on myself harder than ever to really stand out.
