| Header: | The Symbolism behind Sir Justice and Wisdom | ||
| Bulletin: | Sir Justice: True Justice can only be found in God, and is from God, hence the scriptural basis for Sir Justice: “Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I am the Lord your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.” --Leviticus 19:36 “A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.” --Proverbs 11:1 Sir Justice gains his power from God, hence his power source is inexhaustible, and he is capable of overcoming any enemy. Sometimes if Justice is rejected by all the people in an area he can be harmed, although no harm to him is ever permanent, because Justice cannot be destroyed, only delayed. I am not saying that God is weak or that Justice is week, merely that God will refrain himself from people’s lives when they viciously reject him, and sometimes Justice is postponed. Sir Justice tends to deal with his enemies in a rather harsh fashion, this is because he is Justice not mercy. Justice and mercy are not synonymous, neither are they necessarily linked. Justice is when you receive what you deserve, mercy is when you are exempted from receiving what you deserve. The two are not mutually inclusive. Each symbol embedded in Sir Justice’s armor has significance. The three concentric circles on his shoulder pads symbolize the Trinity, because true Justice is based on God, and dependant upon God’s absolute nature for its existence. The Magen David (Star of David) on his right pectoral symbolizes the days of Creation. The reason that life has purpose and value is because God Created it. The value of a thing is determined by its origin, objectively speaking of course. Subjective value can be determined by sentimentality and economic factors, but those things have nothing to do with determining the value of life itself. The scales on his left pectoral symbolize balance, fairness, and objectivity. The symbol covering his solar plexus is a Chi Ro, which symbolizes Christ Jesus, the final judge of souls. The symbols on his arm gauntlets are the Alpha and Omega (beginning and end) as are the symbols on his hip guards. The symbol on the fabric which hands in the center is an Alpha and Omega combined. The dog on the back of his cape symbolizes loyalty, fidelity, and watchfulness. The color blue symbolizes immortality, for true Justice is eternal. Blue represents immortality in the Chinese culture, which bears significance to me since China is the oldest and certainly one of the wisest cultures in the world, and was originally a Godly culture based on divine principles. Wisdom: The Biblical basis for wisdom is as follows: “Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her coice in the streets: She crieth in the chief place of the concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying. How long, ye simples ones, will ye love simplicity? And the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? Turn you at my reproof; behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. Because I have called, and ye refused; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer, they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.” --Proverbs 1:20-33. There is more in Proverbs 2, but what I have written here is sufficient to create a character profile based off of. So wisdom is personified as female, therefore I made her female. Wisdom is also essential in determining Justice, therefore I believe that the two are mutually inclusive, and thus I made them husband and wife. “He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly, He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.” --Proverbs 2:7-8 For the color scheme for Wisdom I found myself once more turning to the oldest civilization in the world. The color red (the only color Wisdom has), symbolizes good fortune and joy. The white symbolizes purity and brightness. Black was regarded as the color for Heaven, symbolizing the place wherein God dwelt. True Wisdom is based in, and comes from, God: “For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding,” --Proverbs 2:6. Wisdom does not wear armor because she is not combatant, she implores and reasons, but does not punish or fight. It is those who do not regard Wisdom that are subject to the Judgment. So that is my rationale behind the way the characters look and act. I hope everyone enjoys, and I hope everyone understands the points I make, although I know that not everyone will. |
