My real name is too long even for my language, so please call me Chong.

In Filipino colloquial terms, "Chong" means friend. But you are still welcome to make references associated with pot pop culture of Cheech and Chong though.

I'm a cartoonist and writer based in the suffocating capital of the Philippines. My first job was as editorial cartoonist for Manila Standard. That lasted five years. I felt priveleged to be in that position at such a young age, considering I've always wanted to be a political cartoonist.

My proudest achievent was making a 12-page comic about child rights of internally-displaced people and it was made part of Filipino textbooks produced by the Department of Education with the help of UNICEF and Australia Aid to be distributed to the nation's public schools. This textbook is the "Peace Education Teaching Exemplars for Elementary Schools." Basically, it teaches the students about the differences of the world's various cultures and religions. It also promotes upholding human rights in the face of even the most dire situations.

Right now, I'm a graphic designer and a comic strip contributor to The Philippine Star. I make short stories in comics format. I hope to have them printed soon. If the fates disallow me from doing so, I could just upload those comics online.

Sorry, for the long entry.

These are one-page comics on vignettes I have witnessed in transit. I try to exercise my narrative "skills" by occasionally giving myself a limitation of telling my story in just one page.

I knew your name sounded familiar when Ian (as in Ice Cream Ian) introduced us at the Eraserheads book launch! (Your own contribution to the anthology was so raw and brutally honest.) I just didn't realize where I'd heard about you, until just now.

Also, I'm friends with Erick Fabian (who I'm trying to convince to sign up here, using one of his various alter-egos) -- I read the interview that he did with you, in TICTiger zine. It took me a while lang to figure out who exactly you are. (I realized which comic strip you made, after reading the contributor bios in Tikman Ang Langit.)

Anyway, I'm glad to have met you! Will have a look at the stuff you posted here.

Check us out! Gaywebcomics.com is a portal for artists. The portal and the artist's pages income generator will be advertisers. There is no budget to pay artists to join the portal. It will have to be restricted to those 18 and over because there will surely be some naughty bits, but right now that is the only restriction on the slate. I am just excited about getting the site up to see what evolves. My aim is to have a broad cross-section of comics, art and humor. I am hopeful that the site will appeal to the whole GLBT community. Artists will even be able to accept advertising at their site on the gaywebcomics.com portal.

The Filipinos are a talented bunch. Lord knows how will it take for the Pinoy komikeros to latch on the comicspace wagon.

Hey There Chong,

Thanks for the add! I think its great that your getting your comics published in some newspapers!I'm hoping to get to that point soon! Here in Toronto we have a few pinoy-centric papers - I forget the names of them.

Anyways, keep up the good work!
