Kurt Busiek still has 'em in Astro City, too, I think, and those have always been good ones. Dark Horse hasn't given them up, either--there's always some good stuff in Conan. I was working in comics publishing when the death of the letters page happened, and it was strange--even when we had hundreds of thousands of readers, as the online forums gained prominence, people stopped writing. And what mail we did get stopped being very interesting--it was all "You rule!" or "You suck!" but not the kind of interesting commentary we hoped for.

I think e-mail killed good letter writing of almost every kind, including letters of comment to comics. Dropping the pages was a hard decision at the company I worked for, but filling them with nonsense wasn't really a better alternative.
