Laura Martin is a very tired colorist. Like many other colorists, she got her start at Wildstorm; went freelance for a year; spent a couple of amusing years at CrossGen; and has since returned to freelancing. She's won a few awards here and there, and worked on some notable projects like Thor, Planetary, The Authority, Astonishing X-Men, The Ultimates (volume 2), JLA: Heaven's Ladder, Ruse, Negation, and any number of short runs, miniseries, fill-ins and covers for just about every major publisher out there.

She's ignoring an important deadline as you read this. No, really.

Oh yeah -- remember that colorist from a few years back, Laura DePuy? She's a hack.

I wonder how many years I've got until I can get anywhere near your coloring sense for picking out palettes, creating atmosphere and effects, and all those good things..

Damnit, that's too many.

Hi there! We’re starting up this year’s Small Press Idol…and wanted to invite you to the grand unveiling of this year’s Guidelines. I apologize for the all-in-one nature of this. At this time, individuals and teams have a little over a month to get things together and be ready to post their Round 1 entries. Round 1 will last till March 25th. It’s a solid window to get a project together and qualified for Round 2 past our judge panel. If you are interested in being a contestant, this is fair warning to get a project going!
If you are a news outlet or resource of any sort, we invite you to help spread the word about Small Press Idol, and get on the official Sponsors and Supporters list on the Idol Main Page. Traditionally, the page has gotten hundreds of thousands of hits a month for the 5 months the contest runs. All we ask in return for the link placement on our prominently placed list, is a link back in some way that is fairly prominent, and that you indeed cover the contest if you are a news site. You can contact us about that right from the guidelines page.
Just want to watch the show? That’s great! Now is time to sign up at the site so you can VOTE in the rounds to come, and post comments about your favorites! We’re expecting hundreds of contestants this year. It should be a lot of fun!

Hope this message reaches you in the spirit it was intended, you are welcome to ask questions, and otherwise make sure this is for real. This is the fourth year for the SPI. Last year’s contest pages are still online. So that’s what this is about, hope it interests you!

Planetary kicks a metric assload of goodness, says I. I wasn't so much into the writing through Astonishing X-Men, but the art is undeniably good which seems to be the trend here. I know I have at least a couple pages by you saved for the sake of reference.

If you get to work, I will, too!
Be well.

Back off Laura DePuy! She was cool! Hope all is well in A town.

thanx for the add.
i´m a latebloomer in my appreciation of the colorist job, actually it was your work on astonishing xmen that converted me. i´m a great fan of joss whedon´s writing, and john cassaday is definitely one of the best pencillers around - but your coloring is just, well, truly astonishing. especially on the covers - little works of art unto themselves. the one with white queen and cyclops - the red and blue - awesome.

Thanks for the add!

I love your work! When I saw your coloring, I was like "who is this?!" Most colorists aren't good enough to warrent comment, in my opinion. I want to tell you how nice it is to see someone who understands that gradient and lens flare aren't the only tools in photoshop.

Hey Laura...I've been a big fan of your work...You're an awesome colorist! BK

Thanks Laura.

Now I forgive you for being the reason why Planetary was so late. It was you, right?
