| Bulletin: | "The Flapper Variety" was a 10-week experiment (brief even by my standards), one that had a lofty premise: Using the xenophobia of the 1920s as a analogy of the post-9/11 world under "W." Unfortunately, it suffered from numerous faults: (1) It was too talky; (2) it was too obtuse; and (3) it was difficult era to depict visually, despite my affection for the decade. It was, in short, not one of my better efforts. But in re-reading these strips, I still like many of the gags and view it with modest affection. | ||
