The man just needed some 2-ply and some new comics, then all this could have been avoided; but noooo... someone had to get up in his face.

A smidge about me then...

I have been reading comics ever since a copy of DC Special (1975) - #29 found its way into my clutches as a child & it's been a nonstop journey ever since. Sure, it also didn't hurt that I grew up in a town that was famous for being the hometown of Lester Dent, creator of pulp hero Doc Savage, so comics were part of homework as well. They have been one of the constant companions in my life & have inspired me to both gain my Bachelor's Degree in English Literature, as well as in Theatre, & to also serve in the United States Armed Forces. The latter didn't take so well, but I am probably one of the few people who can recite Prospero's part from The Tempest while field cleaning an M-16. So, there is that...

I am lucky to have had a wide range of experiences in my life that have led me to where I am today. As the once & future owner of my own comic shop, I consider myself lucky to be able to still be working in the industry that I love as part of the editorial team for a monthly trade publication. All the while, I try to never fail to absorb anything & everything I can about this industry from fellow retailers I meet & befriend, so that my next shop is not one that has to shut it's doors.

My wife Lisa, of infinite patience for puttng up with me, is a software designer/pottery instructor; who, along with my teenage son William (giver of many grey hairs) keep me grounded in the here & now. They are my everything, & I am not just saying that because I am legally and contractually bound to... I am also saying it because they know where I sleep. They rock, & they know it. I am just the roadie in their band.

Comics I Read...

Not really a fair question, since out of the ones that come out in a given month, it would be easier to name the few I don't get... but here goes the attempt: I will pick up nearly all the main DC line, they just are too iconic to go bad and with writers like Simone on Birds, they wouldn't anyway. Vertigo currently has me with American Virgin, Fables, Jack of Fables, Loveless, Testament, & Y: The Last Man. Image is doing pretty well with Age of Bronze, Fear Agent, Fell, Invincible, Liberty Meadows, & PVP. Dark Horse only really has me for Rex Mundi, which I carried over from Image, but I have picked up Buffy, so far, since I like Whedon. Not Bad. Marvel, while I used to be a zombie, I cherry pick now. I get the Ultimate line, the Spidey titles, Ms. Marvel, New & Mighty Avengers, Heroes for Hire, & She-Hulk. I will pick up the occassional X-book to see what's what, these days but it has mostly been ruined for me for the past decade or so. As for indies, I always get Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose (I'm pagan, have to support the home team don'tchaknow...), Cavewoman, Action Philosophers, Athena Voltaire, Artesia, & Local. I will also pick up Tek Jansen when it comes out because I want to support Stephen Colbert in his efforts. Not many of us are brave enough to put satire where satire is most richly due. As you can see, my tastes are all over the place & I will give most anything a chance for 3 issues, if it can't hold me past that...

Quick bits about me...

- Does the worst Christopher Walken impression this side of Louie Anderson, but keeps trying anyway.
- Is a 3rd Degree Master of Aikido, but can be easily mollified with a plate of oatmeal-raisin cookies.
- Colors in Indiana blue & refers to it as the 6th Great Lake on all his maps, refusing to drive through it. It knows why...
- Has a serious man crush on Samuel L. Jackson as the one, true source of all that is cool in the universe. All Hail The Jackson!
- Thinks that Scotchtoberfest should be an accepted & legal holiday, just like Guy Fawkes' Day, Groundhog Day, & my birthday.
- Protests loudly any comic that has more Issue #0 or #1's & alternative covers than pages of content. Stop doodling & make a real product. You know who you are.
- As an avid gamer has used Boot Hill, Kingmaker & the D&D "Cthullu" Deities & Demigods all as currency at points in his life, much to his eternal shame.

Town Called Dobson has been nominated for the 2008 Weblog awards for best webcomic. Please consider voting for the strip. You can vote everyday until Jan 13th, 2009.

I wanted to take some time in this new year to thank you folks for your support of me and my little comic strip Town Called Dobson. We crossed the 500th Strip threshold this past year, got printed in some great independent newspapers, got to show off how I create TCD at Adobe over the summer and the continued presence in the blogosphere is always a blessing. Without your support, readership and emails, TCD would never have made it so long. It is with the deepest heart I thank you all. It is vital that progressive issues are represented in editorial cartooning, especially in these days of dwindling news readership.

Your consistent support and strip devotion has earned Town Called Dobson a 2008 Weblog Award Nomination for Best Webcomic. I am stunned to be nominated and I am sure Karl Rove was secretly working behind the scenes to kill the nomination off, but "Hope" wins again!

Hi, how are you? Our studio recently put a new site up. pencily.com is a great source of inspiration for illustrators, animators and designers, so I hope you find it as useful as we do!

RE: Faustian Bargains Easier to Explain to Kids than Divorce...

What the hell do you expect from the company that killed off one of it's flagship characters? Change for change sake seems to be the constant.

Hey Jason, thanks for the ad. I appreciate the request. That's cool that you are an Aikidoka. I am a practitioner of Hakkoryu JuJutsu and DaitoRyu AikiJuJutsu. Very cool.

Hey Jason,
Do you practice Aikido just as a past-time, or do you teach with a rank that high? I'll be moving up to Madison soon, and want to find a good way to practice techniques learned in a Kiyojute Ryu Kempo group.
Just asking...
Hey! Let go of my hand-
What are you DO-?!
AARRRGHHHH!!!!

Hey Micah! Welcome to Mad Town! I haven't taught in a few years but there are a few good groups and people in the area you could get in touch with without any trouble, especially on the east side of town. I have checked out Fences, you really have some solid work there! Very cool, indeed! Keep on, keepin' on man!

Hey Jason,
Thanks for dropping by the page. I may be moving up to Madison, how do you like it up there? Any-hoo, have a good one,
Micah and WPF.

Lol, thanks for the friend add. :)

Sorry you're bitter about not being Irish (you're either Irish or not-Irish); at least we don't wear skirts!

Hey JG,

Thanks for the Link! Liked the profile. Christopher Walken, Samuel Jackson and 3rd degree Aikido Blackbelt... now that's a combination. :)

And of course anyone who likes FELL is aces in my book.
