RE: A Few Ways to Promote your Comic?

Forum comments with a link to my comic in my "signature" have worked alright, but what's worked best have been paid ads-banners on more popular comics and in ad networks like Project Wonderful. An ongoing sponsorship on OnlineComics.net has worked well.

yeah, nothing's going to beat buying adverts - although this pencil preview bit some top webcomic guys are doing seems to be doing well...good luck MN!

Hey Jay, Misadventures #2 looks good. Are you going to be posting the rest of the story online, either here or at your WCN site?

Not until after the issues are out--it's what the publisher wants so gotta do what they wish. Eventually though all 4 issues will be online but probably not for quite a while. Best to order the series then :)

RE: Bye Bye Student Loan!

You lucky, lucky man. The day of my last payment is a long way off. I don't even want to think about how long.

Congrats, may your former student loan payment money go for more fun stuff now.

A comment about your review of Identity Crisis, if I may: you mentioned in the Artwork section of the review:

"The first is a very small complaint. In this book, the "Big Three" (Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman) are usually kept on the edges of the action. When they do appear, rather than being given a clear view of the characters, we are often given extreme close-ups of their costumes ... what Meltzer calls their "iconography". That's fine if the character has a bat-insignia or an S-shield stretched across his manly chest but, for Wonder Woman, it means we're treated instead to a close up of her cleavage or, in one scene, a star-spangled crotch-shot. That's really not too respectful!"

About Wonder Woman's iconography, well, the problem is that iconography appears on parts of her body deemed sexually suggestive. For example, Superman and Batman's symbols appear on their chests. All well and good right, because a man's chest is not sexually suggestive to most people. Wonder Woman though, has the double W's on her chest, and close-ups of a woman's chest are definitely sexually suggestive to most men and even a few women. Same with the stars, which are on the bottom half of her costume, on parts of her body that are quite suggestive to many people.

What I'm trying to say is, don't blame the artist on Identity Crisis for the "disrespectful" close-ups, blame the guys who originally designed Wonder Woman's costume in the first place-they were the ones who put the stars on her crotch and butt, and the double W's across her cleavage!

There's some truth in that. Personally, though, I don't blame the guys who designed the costume because, well, in the first place I like WW's costume(!) and, in the second, if you know that's what you're dealing with, then you don't choose to use those shots.

Just to clarify, however, the review blames the writer; not the artist for these choices. Meltzer makes it quite clear that the "iconography" shots were his idea and that he argued strongly for their inclusion.

Thanks for reading the review, though, and for the feedback. I don't do many of these but with those two books, I felt compelled!

Nice that you've got the new Atland comic up here at the same time as on your main site. You think this site can handle the traffic that comes with mirroring growing numbers of comics?

Thanks for the add, Nate. Count me as one of the many fans of your comic Atland-I only wish you could do more than a page a week. If you haven't already, check out my comic and let me know what you think-I'd really like another comic creator/artist's opinion.
