MarcMcLaurin
I am a comic-book writer, artist, colorist and editor best known for developing the landmark Marvel Comics limited series Marvels by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross. I studied art at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, before joining Marvel and working on the Epic Comics imprint and on other Marvel projects. These included Epic's various Alien Legion limited series, and licensed titles such as the legendary manga Akira, Moebius and filmmaker and fantasy novelist Clive Barker's Nightbreed and Hellraiser. I also edited the creatively daring Razorline imprint of superheroes created by Barker for Marvel.I redesigned What If and some Alterniverse titles, such as The Punisher Destroys the Marvel Universe. I edited Marvels — the painted miniseries recounting the Marvel universe epic from the point of view of an Everyman — by then-comics-newcomer Alex Ross and writer Kurt Busiek. As a writer, I created the 18-issue run of the Luke Cage revival series Cage (1992-1993). I also wrote issues of The Punisher (1987-1995 series) and occasional features in Marvel Comics Presents. I like to think my time at Marvel was most known for discovering and working with new talent. Besides Alex Ross, I was one of the first editors to work with Steve Skroce, Larry Wachowski (of the Wachowski Bros./Matrix), Tristan Schane, the late and so great Jorge Zaffino (who did my portrait used on this site), and many others. Since leaving Marvel, I've developed a career in Art Direction, Design, Illustration and Publishing in Western Massachusetts. Hi, how are you? Our studio recently put a new site up. pencily.com is a great source of inspiration for illustrators, animators and designers, so I hope you find it as useful as we do!
All the best,

Actually I'm probably responsible for the threads being lost. I had the same effect on Xero ( A book from DC by Chris Priest and ChrisCross) Chase (Gray and Williams, also DC) and several other of my favorite titles. So I take full responsibility.
Keep me notified of any of your new projects and I'll be sure to support them. |

Your run on Cage (and the explanation that the treatment worked on him because he WANTED it which is why it didn't work on forced subjects) is still one of my favorite runs in a comic. You and Turner made a great team. 1 Reply [ Latest posted on January 26th, 2007 4:19 PM ]

Thanks so much Steve! I was saddened that no one wanted to pick up on any of the threads and continuity elements I introduced there, preferring instead just to start over ignoring everything from the initial run of Power Man. Though I've liked things done with the character, that was a major disappointment. Nice to know there are some, or at least one, who liked the stuff. I'm still proud of it! |

Mister McLauren! As both an ol' Marvel pal and a ComicSpace friend, may I ask you to help support the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (www.moccany.org)? Become a member today! Thanks. 2 Replies [ Latest posted on January 11th, 2007 10:31 PM ]

I will absolutely do! I downloaded the PDF in anticipation of the tap (I've seen your work on other pages...) Is it safe to fax a credit card number? Or would I be safer to wait until I'm in NYC in person in Feb to join in person? |

You could just mail a check or sign up in February. Whichever work best for you. Thanks! |

Hey Marcus!
Been way too long! It's all your fault I'm stuck in this business! :) |

Marc! Awesome to hear from you! Won't be going to the NY con. But I'm sure we'll run into each other soon! Love that Jorge portrait! 1 Reply [ Latest posted on January 11th, 2007 4:43 PM ]

Thanks-one of the five pieces that Jorge gave me. I was so shocked to hear about his death, two months after the fact, since I'm so out of touch. Trying to get back IN touch, though. |
