Hello all,
I'm Mitch. Currently I work as a Mine Services Technician in an underground gold mine. I have been a huge comic fan my entire life. I honestly cannot remember a time when superheroes and comics were not somehow part of it. I have gone through a few changes as a reader however. As a kid I loved the Batman books. In fact in the 1st grade even had Batman and Robin costumes made up for me(my friends always had to be Robin) The very first fist fight I was even in was in JK and it was over who was stronger Batman or Tarzan. I mostly stuck with the mutant books as a pre-teen to young adult and then went into more of the obscure title: The Crow, The Tick, Watchmen, Sin City. I stopped collecting for a few years but have recently begun anew. These days I'll read just about anything. There is so much good stuff to chose from!
I've always dreamed of becoming a professional comic book writer and am working at it as best I can. At this point it is still just a dream; however we all need goals.
Take care,
Mitch

Ok I finished the Wolverine Origins and overall I thought it was alright. It definitely gave us an explanation as to why Wolvie is so infatuated with Jean Grey (being a look-a-like read. surrogate Rose) Perhaps intimated that his choice in appearance was influenced by the most horrifying personage of his child-hood(Logan) a la Batman basing his look on the thing that scared him the most; a bat. I guess in order to have an ongoing series they really can't tidy up every loose plot line. I was however disappointed that in the last panel he seems to have abandoned his humanity, or civilization, in order to become the alpha male of this wolf-pack.
This in itself contradicts many things established as wolverine's character over the years. A pack is a family unit, and one that he refused to take a submissive role in. Yet has never really expressed a desire to lead the X-Men. He always comes off as the loner, which his name (Wolverines being solitary hunters) seems to imply. Yet here he is at the end of the mini-series accepting a role; a dominant role, with animals that must hunt as a pack to survive.
Good story overall yet perhaps not keeping true to the character. Yet who am I to say anything, when at the end of the day I was happy that I got to read it. |

Currently reading Wolverine: Origins (the 6 parter mini-series)
It's like I'm getting caught up on all these huge events :)
I'll write back later with my thoughts once I've finished it.
Off to work |

Wow! I just finished "Daredevil,The Man Without Fear", by Frank Miller. I can't believe I had never read this before. In my opinion it's a better book than "Batman; Year One". I am continually amazed at Frank Miller's story telling abilities. I loved the fact that the book was about Matt Murdoch, and not necessarily Daredevil. In fact it's not until the end of book 5 that we see him dressed. It read very much like a Sin City book. Daredevil was very much humanized here; and did not feel distant like many other super-powered heroes. I loved the book very much, and would like to read more stories that don't necessarily focus on costumed avengers. Rather, I'd like to read stories where the hero emerges and answers a call to duty, either by circumstance or by an innate sense of justice; like Matt Murdoch did.
Great Book!

What I am so curious about is how to break into the industry as a writer; without having any discernible artistic ability. Not to say that I can't write; rather it's that I can't draw. The only thing I've come across has been sites for publishers accepting scripts for their characters. The problem here is that those comics haven't been published yet. So character, setting, even mood is a mystery. The big publishers don't accept unsolicited scripts, and the small press publishers tend to be looking for a writer/artist. It is somewhat frustrating; however that is what makes success that much sweeter. Here's hoping life gets sacrin.
Cheers!

A friend of mine just lent me two Army of Darkness mini series, "Shop 'till you drop", and "Ashes 2 Ashes". I thought they were great overall, however at times I found the pacing felt a little rushed. Still though I was very happy to read them, and hope to find the rest in trade paperback. |

Need to go to work in a few minutes, but wanted to update. I really enjoyed yesterday's Lost. I thought it was a great start to the "new" season. Gave me everything I wanted and then some. Good work. |

Off to have a Firefly and Angel marathon at a friends house. Introducing him to both for the first time. He's a non practicing fanboy, but tonight he's letting the geekyness flow.
Should be a blast.

Just read 300 Bulletin: All I can say is wow! I am such a huge history buff and wasn't able to get the book when it first came out and kind of forgot about it for a long time. A couple of months back I excitedly told my wife that the movie was coming out and that Frank Miller is my favourite writer and that I couldn't wait to see it. Being the wonderful wife she is she surprised me with not only 300 but the entire Sin City Library in hardcover.
From the first page I was hooked! That was an amazing read. I couldn't wait to turn the page, yet didn't want it to end. I'll be taking a road trip as soon as that movie comes out.
Impatiently,
