Thanks for the add. I've actually had my eye on you for a while over at Y-Hosting, so it's good to see you here also.

Hey - sorry for the late reply (completely forgot). Yeah, this place seems to be for networking more than anything, but I have no problem with that. XD

DX Darn, there's no option to reply to replies that I can see. In any case, thanks for looking through my gallery. I'm glad you liked it.

Can I ask, have you always had the style you have now? I know it must sound like somewhat of a silly question, considering styles are developed with time. Though I myself started out with "plain anime", and am slowly developing my own style by adding a level of realism. How did you start out?

The little "arrow" next to the red cross at the top of the "thread" appears to "reply" to -all- the replies in that thread!

You have some great work on show in your gallery.

As for "style", that's one of those, always out of reach things. You can strive all your life to attain some level of personal flair and even though everyone around appears to point at your work and say, love/hate your style...you still can't see it or appreciate it in the same way.

For me, I just revell in the work. Drawing, inking whatever. I don't set out to stamp any style on it. I just render it as I see fit, as I go along! A little hatching here, a few sculpted lines there and it all fits together in the end or at least I hope it does-LOL.

"Style" is secondary to enjoyment, in my book. That said, it wouldn't be the first time I've hated a piece with a passion and everyone and their sister appears to love it and then the opposite is true too! So it's better to remain oblivious and enjoy what you do and how you do it! Learn as many different ways to do what you do as you can, because that helps you grow.

-Darren.

Well what do you know.... XD Thank you.

You do have a point, though the only online community I'm very active at is Gaia Online, which happens to be a forum based on Japanese animation, for the most part. Usually when I post one of my works there I get people commenting on the style, so I suppose it's made me a little self conscious about it.

Your way of thinking is quite free, and that's admirable. Confidence and lack of concern (if you will) about what others think do a lot for how well an artist can draw, IMO. >> I'm far too self-conscious still, though I'm hoping that goes away in time and with more experience. Does it? Speaking of, how many years of experience (professional and otherwise, I suppose) do you have under your belt, if you don't mind my asking?

Miser BellatrixSpeaking of, how many years of experience (professional and otherwise, I suppose) do you have under your belt, if you don't mind my asking?

Don't mind at all. I fall into the old cliche, "Drawing since he could hold a crayon in his chubby little baby mits!" However, I was in Primary School when I started to take a real interest in trying harder to produce better work (Back then it was more equalled better, so more detail in the image meant it was obviously a better image-LOL) So that'd have been when I was maybe six or seven. My interest in comics came via an introduction through a good friend when I was eleven and really since then I haven't done anything but practice, a lot! I've been fortuanate enough that I've got regular commissions now for the last six or seven years. However my full-time jobs have always tended to be Left Brain Heavy employment; Mortgage Advisor, Insurance etc. So when I was made redundant three years ago, I went back into full-time education to try and get some of the bit's of paper required to get jobs in a more Right Hemisphered job market. That is only now starting to work, as I've spent the last six months doing Concept art and now Storyboards. Much better than selling Insurance and Mortgages;-)
