MONOLITH, LLC is the comics and multimedia company that produces Rapid City.Rapid City is a largely autobiographical superhero story. In it, we use superheroes to internalize the classic realtionship between power and responsibility. Not only do these characters deal with their responsibility to society that their powers give them, they also come to grips with the fact that the nature of their friendship gives them power over, and thus responsibility for, one another's safety and well-being. Rapid City is the story of how they come to understand and accept this responsibility. Check out the Rapid City Production Blog.We also manage the superhero discussion forum The Cape Symposium The Cape Symposium is our newly launched forum for the discussion of superheroes. The theory behind them, what the say about our society, and what it takes to create quality superhero stories. Come join in on our conversations.

Rapid City: B-Sides
It's heroes versus mayhem on the streets of Rapid City in BLACK OUT. And nothing goes as planned when a vampire hit-woman pursues her quarry right across the audition line for a super-human reality show. All in "Rapid City: B-Sides".

24 Comic Book Day Project
We jumped the gun on 24 comic book day because it fit our schedules to do it a few weeks early. In the end, we learned a heck of a lot. Though we did not make the deadline, I am really proud of all of the work we put in. Enjoy.

I think I mentioned before, you and i are working in a very unique sub-genre. Music-inspired superhero comics.
I just think that's pretty cool. I wish there were some way we could exploit that. But for now it looks like all we can do is wait for it take off and then say "Yeah, before this was huge, back in the day, it was just me and Matt."

Thanks for the note - I'm glad you enjoyed Chasing His Tale. Coyote is a long-time favorite character for me, so when it came time to do a 24 Hour Comic, he was one of my first ideas. While I may go back someday to do a "director's cut" version with more toning and more subtle colors for the spirit realm, I'm pretty darn happy with what I managed to accomplish in the limited time frame. Certainly better than I expected to do. ;) |

Some really sharp, clean-looknig pencils in the gallery. I like what you have here. Clearly you've put a lot of time in the pages and it shows. I'd like to see more!

That art is mostly by Jason Krause. I think you can find his comicspace at jdkrause
Tell him what you think of it!
I wrote those pages and I am constantly amazed to see my ideas coming to fruition like this.

Unfortunately, Stray Bullets is the only Lapham stuff I ever saw - there are some big gaps in my history of comic books (see my story at http://billscomics.blogspot.com ), but I would have loved to have seen his work on Batman! |

Sorry our choice in title connects to some not-so-nice things for you, but thanks for taking the time to write. Sad to say, you're the first person to bring that up, we always figured we'd get more. Keep on reading comics, maybe we can interest you in a future project of ours sometime down the road. Take care.
