I got the comic/cartoon bug back when I was a kid like alot of folks. I grew up in NYC and I watched Astroboy, Popeye, Snuffy Smith< Courageous cat and Minute mouse, Mighty Mouse etc. In comics, I loved Batman, Superman and the Green Lantern and that was because the school I went to had A subscription to DC comics. So my friends and created our own comics and wrote stories for GL. We gave them away to other classmates. Then in 1966, I saw Marvel comics and lost my mind, First, loved Daredevil because he like me had a handicap(I'm in wheelchair although back then I was on crutches). I remember watching Marvel Superheroes on Tv it was Ironman, Capt America, The Hulk and Submariner, it very basic animation but I loved it anyway.
To the present, I love Black and white comics, it really does excite me to no end. So I created 'Blow' my flagship book featuring my favorite character 'Big 'Fro Brown', a bebop trumpet playing Detective who would rather kick your (you know what) then mess around with you. My second project is 'Lil' Nikke, Ninja Smasher'. The book is actually about my children when they were little and the misadventures mixed with good old fashion fantasy to boot.
I always love Manga and have some characters and stories that I'm developing. I really have alot of material that I'm sitting on because I want to make sure I'm satisfied with them but I love to offer work to those doing Anthologies, So if you need something for a book, 'hit a brother up, I'm down'.
I attend conventions all the time either as a participant or a fan so I know I'll see you if you're there!
My advice to anyone in this industry, consistantly work at it and pay no attention the haters. I respect anybody who puts pen/pencil to paper and has the guts 'to put out there'. The new Icon have to come from somewhere, why not from artists like us?
