Publicity on Parade!
New interview on the Pulse today, featuring me talking about Starkweather: Immortal. Enjoy! http://www.comicon.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/36/t/006638. html Thanks to everyone! A big thanks to all of you who came to the ASP booth at SDCC, and our Starkweather table at Wizard World Chicago. You made it a great summer for me and writer David Rodriguez. I hope you enjoyed Starkweather: Immortal #0, and keep an eye out for #1 next month. Also thanks to all the other great ASP artists and writers I got to hang out with, as well as artists Dave and Misty from D-Rod's other new series "Shadowgirls". I'm continually amazed at how cool and friendly the comics crowd is, and Archaia has brought on some of the best. Oh, and a big shout-out to Michael and Marshall from Boom! Studios as well. Finally, thanks to the folks at Tomorrow is Yesterday for hosting our signing Wednesday afternoon before the show. Great store, guys! The Big Art Giveaway at San Diego! To celebrate the release of Starkweather: Immortal #0 this week, we'll be giving away the original art from issues #0 and #1 at this week's Comic-Con in San Diego. We'll have them at the Archaia Studios Press booth (booth #2049). And how, you might wonder, do you get one of these pieces? Just buy a copy of the book! That's right, whenever writer Dave Rodriguez or I (Patrick McEvoy) are signing at the ASP booth all weekend, we'll be giving away free original art from the first two issues of Starkweather: Immortal. Well, until we run out. And speaking of that... You might think we'd run out of art pretty quickly, but actually, I work a bit differently than most comics artists. I work mainly on the computer, and start with a sketch that is sort of half-way between a rough sketch and finished drawing. AND, most importantly, I draw ONE PANEL AT A TIME, each on a separate piece of paper. So there are well over 100 pieces of art to give away. Just pick out your favorite and take it away with your shiny new copy of Starkweather: Immortal! Find out more about the book here: http://www.aspcomics.com/starkweather.php Issue number 0 (available at Comic-con) is written by Fantasy author Piers Anthony, with the script adapted by series creator Dave Rodriguez, with art by me, Patrick McEvoy. Please stop by the ASP booth and say "hi" if you're at SDCC. We'll also be at Wizard World Chicago in Artist's Alley, so if you're in Chicago, look us up then. So to recap: ASP booth (2049), Starkweather: Immortal #0, free art with purchase whenever Dave and I are signing. See you there! June 4, 2007 Anyone interested in a 9-page preview of Starkewather: Immortal #0? If so click here. If not... well, click there anyway. What have you got to lose? Thanks to Broken Frontier for the love. April 14, 2007 Upper Deck Entertainment just posted an article I did for them about digital art, specificially for their World of Warcraft card game. It's a pretty detailed step-by-step of how I created the art for one of the cards in the first set, and my approach to making digital art look reasonably natural. World of Warcraft art tutorial April 7, 2007 Starkweather Forum on the Archaia boards! Here it is - we'll be talking Starkweather, posting art, discussing upcoming stories, and of course answering any questions you might have to ask. Drop by and let us know you're there! Starkweather Forum April 6, 2007 Starkweather updates! First - have you checked out the current issue of PREVIEWS? Starkweather:Immortal #0 is a FEATURED ITEM!! Big thanks to writer Dave Rodriguez for mailing me my very own copy (which I need now that I'm over 50 miles away from the nearest comics shop.) There are only a handful of books listed as "featured" every month, so this is really cool. If you want to make our lives truly great, be sure to pre-order issue #0 from your local comics shop. I think you'll enjoy it! Also, I'm definitely signed up for San Diego Comic Con this summer. Dave and I will be at the Archaia Studios Press booth doing signings and giving away free art! More details to come, but there will be dozens of pieces of original Starkweather art given away. We must be crazy!! Well, the fact that we're making comics in the first place pretty much guarantees that, but this goes even farther than the normal level of unbalance. And finally, here is the pencilled version of the cover for issue #1, coming out in August. Of course, the painted version is already done (and you can see it in the ASP catalog that you can download here), but this is the only place you can see the pencils. April 5, 2007 Out now - Ezra: Evoked Emotions #3 from Arcana. I did a two-page spread in this issue, and was somehow left COMPLETELY UNCREDITED. And of course my signature is utterly indecipherable, so I assume that no one who reads it will have the slightest idea who did the painting in the middle of this otherwise inked-and-colored book. Le sigh. Oh, well, I did get paid quickly for it, and it printed very nicely, so if you see it you could do worse than to pick it up. Here is a small version of the picture (two-page spread, remember). ![]() Feb 1, 2007 I've added comics! Today I uploaded the first issue of The Gatesville Company, a comic book series by me and writer Marc Bryant. We did two issues before Speakeasy Comics' untimely demise. Some day, we'd like to continue the series, and collect (or reprint) these first two issues as well. Someday, someday... In the meantime, assuming you weren't one of the lucky 3000 or so to actually buy the book, I've put up the first issue in its entirety without dialog for you to see. I don't actually have JPEGs of the art with the balloons and captions, so you'll just have to enjoy the pretty pictures. All you really need to know is that Kazou, the Samurai swordsmith, had made the most perfect sword ever. It was stolen from him by an American, named Combs. After failing to recover his sword, Kazou committed ritual suicide, and now he is in Gatesville, where he's given a chance to find Combs, defeat him in battle, and regain his honor. But to what lenghts is he willing to go for this? You'll also meet the denizens of Gatesville: Mr. Cross (the sheriff), Ms. Brand (the "mayor") and Mr. Boat (the shopkeeper). They show up in each issue, and we learn more about them and their roles in Gatesville as the series progresses. Enjoy! And let me know what you think with a comment. :) The Gatesville Company, and all characters in it, are copyright © 2007 Marc Bryant and Patrick McEvoy. Jan 18, 2007 Let's see if this IMG tag really works! Here's the the cover for the first issue of my upcoming series "Starkweather: Immortal", written by Piers Anthony and Dave Rodriguez: ![]() This book features Cartaphilus from Dave's previous "Starkweather" series. He's Roman, he's immortal, he's a badass - that's all you really need to know! About me: I'm an illustrator and comics artist. My previous ongoing series was The Gatesville Company from the late Speakeasy Comics. I have a new series set to come out this June - I still can't give out all the deatils but it's currently called Starkweather: Immortal. You may also have seen my art in such games as Call of Cthulhu, World of Warcraft TCG, Legend of the Five Rings, and Vampire: The Eternal Struggle.
