First I must tell you that I had no intention of being a comic book writer-artist. The original plan was to be a botanist and go with Admiral Byrd and discover dinosaurs under the Arctic Ice. At the time however, Admiral Byrd was, ahem, long dead, and most of my science information was coming from Gold Key Comics.

Plans righted themselves by college and after an Art and English degree and two comic strips in the school paper I was on my way. Fanzines, syndicated college strips, independent comics followed. Cover for Planet of the Apes, art for a well-received issue of Man From U.N.C.L.E., my adaptation of The Man Who Would Be King, and art (and co-writing) a western mini-series Bounty were some of the highlights.

Comics were sideline for a good many years doing freelance art and what seems like tons of gaming art. Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Star Trek, The 7th Sea, Deadlands and Space 1889 were just a few of the titles.

Then came the web. First Don Secrease and I reworked our short-lived comic book from the 1980’s The Terranauts, for an ongoing web site. Shortly thereafter, I wrote the Athena Voltaire web strip, which was nominated for an Eisner award. The Comic Book mini-series Athena Voltaire: the Flight of the Falcon for Ape Entertainment followed.

I have since departed the Athena title, but Don an I are still doing the Terranauts web strip and a comic book mini-series, Terranauts: A Sea Change at Ape Entertainment.

Beautiful work, Paul. Have we really known each other for 35 years? Why are we still so young and good-looking?
