Ninjas! Robots! Magic Laser Guns! These are just a few of the things I deal with on a daily basis. Life in a comic shop is awesome and part of me never leaves. Whether it's base enjoyment or an educated dissection, comics make an incredible life all the more enjoyable! Buy them, make them, read them, share them, give them, cherish them, study them, understand them, eat them, take them out to dinner, treat them to a nice, relaxing massage and let them pick the movie tonight because comics have done so much for us already! Yay comics, yay comics, I say YAY comics! 'Nuff Said.

Hey, this is Jason from Strange Adventures, right? I think I added you a long time ago but just made the connection. Apparently I'm slow, or maybe I'm just not online enough (oh wait that can't be true). |

I've been great thanks! I think these first couple of hours are a pretty good start to the new year. This web site shows some potential too! Anywho Monique, now that I've joined the party, I'm sure I'll be bumping into you more often, even if it is virtually. Until next time! |

OK, so anything going on in town I should know about? Is anyone doing the 24 Hour thing this spring? |

Well, I'm not sure about the next 24 Hour thingy happening this spring. Have you seen an announcement of the date that I've missed? On their website, it's still just news on the last one in Oct. Whenever it is, I'm sure we can round up enough people to take part again. If the last one was any kind of indicator, we may even need a larger or a second venue. However, I know Gibson wants to get some meetings or jams (or whatever you want to call them) up and running and I was thinking of getting something together sometime this month too. Probably just a meeting of the minds at a cafe for some shop talk and doodling. Of course, one doesn't have to wait for us to get up off our butts though. Anyone with the contact list can put out the word for a gathering. By the way, are you working on anything now? |

Great to see you, Jason. Also good to see you drop some recommendations for good comics. I don't think I have ever been disappointed in a book you've suggested! 1 Reply [ Latest posted on January 2nd, 2007 6:49 PM ]

Hey Gibson, I'm new to this message board/community thingy so be patient with my newbie-ness. Ya, the latest book I'm kinda interested in is American Born Chinese from First Second Publishing (same folks who put out the intriguing Lost Colony). I've only read the first few pages, but it was enough to get into my account for pay day. Anywho, we'll see you around the space. |

Hi. Yup, It's another bearded, thirty-something guy into comics! Won't catch many of us on this site I bet!
OK, so I guess this is where I say something about how I've been reading comics since the late seventies and making a few along the way with my buddy Mike since the late eighties. (I've been favouring black and white water colour & ink lately btw.) I'm working in retail now too, so comics have been pretty prominent in my life for nearly three decades (save a few years near the end of the nineties, but let's not go there.)
Favourite creators? Got an hour or two? In no particular order (except Chris & Will who rise above all):
Chris Ware Will Eisner Mike Mignola John Cassaday Frank Quitely Darwyn Cooke (esp. New Frontier) Steve McNiven Warren Ellis (esp. Planetary) Grant Morrison (esp. New X-Men, We3, Vimanarama, F4:1,2,3,4) Carla Speed McNiel Daniel Clowes (esp. Velvet Glove & David Boring) Charles Burns (Black Hole is amazing!!!) Greg Land (yes, even his tracing) Mike Allred Eric Powell Robert Kirkman Art Adams Jeff Smith Mark Crilley Geof Darrow Alan Davis Paul Neary Bryan Hitch Brian Michael Bendis (esp. New Avengers & Powers) Frank Miller (mostly his early-mid career) Jae Lee (mostly his mid-later career) R. Crumb Alex Ross Sale & Loeb (esp. their Marvel stuff) Seth Fisher Sam Keith (esp. Epicurus the Sage, the Maxx & Four Women) William Messner Loebs (see Sam Keith) Charles Vess (esp. Books of Magic & Stardust) Chester Brown (esp. Louis Riel) Art Spiegelman Joe Sacco (esp. Safe Area: Gorazde) Kyle Baker (esp. Nat Turner & Birth of a Nation) Joe Kubert Osamu Tezuka (esp. Buddah) James Turner (esp. Nil: A Land Beyond Belief) Scott Kolins Moebius Dave McKean the Luna Brothers Charles Schultz Bill Waterson George Herrimen Alan Moore Gene Ha (esp. 49'ers & the Authority)
...There are plenty more, but this is a long enough opening comment as it is so I'll sign off for now.
All the best in the new year to anyone and everyone who reads this! I hope the lucky number seven treats you all well! Read more comics!
