Honky-Tonk Dragon, my blog
Hmmm... not sure what to write here. This space subject to change. I'm an artist. I have years of experience mostly with oil painting, but I've been known to pick up a crow quill, airbrush, Wacom tablet, and or camera, as the mood strikes me. I'm interested in chatting with other artists who are using Photoshop and Manga Studio Pro. I'm not really interested in doing Manga per se, but as software for doing B/W comics I'm pretty impressed with Manga Studio, and know I've just barely scraped the surface of it's functionality. I just joined here, online yet. But for some examples of my art, well here's a larger version of my icon and here's some random pics from my myspace page. Update here's a link to a newer sketch. While this isn't old school comics art, I think this red ochre and sepia kind of treatment might work quite well for a steampunk themed comic. I'm phishing for collaborators here... Been drawing longer than I've been reading and writing, went to an Arts Magnet high school for visual arts, studied photography and digital imaging in college. Right now I'm mostly interested in working black and white. Pencils and inking (though, my black and white digital inking is still too "painterly" for my tastes, I'd like to move it more towards a film noir high contrast look, but having infinite digital "zipatone" is a hard temptation to resist... I'd be interested in hooking up with writers, particularly those who would be interested in really collaborating ala Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. I don't have any real professional experience in Comics, though I learned to read from them. I still read of course, but in the "old man" sense of buying collections, not the fanboy sense of picking up issues every month. Books I like include: Hellblazer, Ex Machina, Y, Preacher, Transmet, Invisibles, etc. Oh, and for some reason I've recently developed an interest in the Wally West incarnation of the Flash. Lifelong diehard Micronauts fan. Creators I like: Alan Moore, Warren Ellis, Garth Ennis, Harvey Pekar, Joe Sacco, etc. Genres I'm interested in: Steampunk, Urban Fantasy, Horror, Science Fiction, Occult, Indie and whatever you'd call just straight forward literary story-telling. Still waiting for a real Burroughsian non-linear narrative comic (Besides the embryonic attempt I made in College... OK I guess Grant Morrison dabbles in it.) |
