"NOG:THE PROTECTOR OF THE PYRAMIDES" will celebrate his 30th anniversary next year. Look for the decisive 96 page full color graphic novel and soundtrack from Hardy Headz called "NOG: THE WAR FOR PLANET NUBA!!!" NOG was created and published by ONLI STUDIOS during the great Black & White" boom that gave us TMNT and so much indie products. To get some insight into the ONLI UNIVERSE you should get a copy of TEAM BLANGA from www.comixpress.com . It comes with an original CD soundtrack and reprises the "NOG IS BACK!!!" story in its full form. Plus the origins of Malcolm-10 and Sustah-Girl, The Queen of the Black Age are included in this 96 page graphic novel. You can follow the progress of this truly indie cosmic hero at www.nogtheprotector.blogspot.com.
BLACK = Independent creativity. When I am not teaching at the Kenwood Academy High School, Coaching sports, or teaching atthe Harold Washington College in Chicago I am into the whole ONLI UNIVERSE building thing!!!!! "BLACK AGE X" is a rap!!! It was a great time for all. The 10th Black Age of Comics Convention in Chicago at Kenwood Academy lived up to its promise of celebrating indie-creativity and products derived from the urbane or World Arts exprience. The weekend celebration opened with Jamal Igle doing a signing at the Graham Crackers comic book megastore in downtown Chicago. This signing was followed with a reception for the artists with the convention being held the next day. It featured Jamal Igle, of DC & Image fame, Craig Rex Perry, of Disney, "The Proud Family", & "Hip-Hop Heaven fame, and the elusive Pedro Bell of P-Funk album cover fame. Additionally exhibitors like Ashley A. Woods, Nino Mesarina, Kiss Me Comix, Urban Style Comics, Urban Ministries Inc., Brother G., LaMorris Richmond, Seitu Haydon, Turtel Onli, Rich Hall, Terry Huddleston, Tim Jackson, and Yaounde Olu were there in full effect. It was all part of the annual official Chicago Artists Month citywide celebration. The many fans who flowed in enjoyed meeting the indie-creative professionals while seeing and collecting their incredible works. Limited edition prints, graphic novels, comic books, a Black Age art exhibit, and other products were the rage. It featured an Art Institute of Illinois' scholarship contest for high school students and an indie-creative Video Short Contest. The video contest winners was Matthew D. Avery for "Common Thread" and a claymation piece called "Meltrice's Life as a Teenager". "BLACK AGE XI" Oct. 10,11, & 12 2008 iwill be in Chicago. You can get details at www.dablackage.blogspot.com. It will feature an exhibition of Black Age indie illustrated work called, "The Blacker The Hero" and a inspiring lecture by the "Father of the Black Age" Turtel Onli. You can get my graphic novel, Team Blanga, from www.comixpress.com. It comes with a smokin' original CD soundtrack with proof of purchase, and is so urbane, so hip, so new, so you. I dig innovative creators like Mobius, Ashley A. Woods, Jack Kirby, Cassandra Washington, and Dwayne McDuffie. In the Spring of 2007 I will re-introduce the Future-Funk fanzine and the "No Evils" studio portfolio book. I lived and worked in Paris during the Bande Dessinee boom that created Metal Hurlant and Heavy Metal. I even illustrated an album cover for the Rolling Stones that didn't pass censorship. I am still looking for a band with the backbone to use it. I am so excited that our industry is enjoying its expansion by embracing creative works that show styles, stories, concepts that are derived from a Black or African perspective and promotes independent creativity. This and the overall growing multiculturalism is bringing our industry to a level long enjoyed by the music industry. The graphitti tag I use was created by one of my students. Her name is Jennifer Hitt. It says "Da Black Age". BOOM!!! Pushing indie-creativity to da max!! In May of 2006 I received a Lifetime Achievement / Pioneer Award at the East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention at Temple University at Philadelphia PA. Over a 15 year period I have presented ten annual Black Age Conventions in Chicago. Believe me, this movement is the next big thing!!! Join the milita. Check us out at www.dablackage.blogspot.com.
