APOCALYPSE PLAN A HIT AT WIZWORLD CHICAGO

I was sweating bullets on Thursday afternoon. UPS had still not delivered my 100 copies of the limited edition comic con exclusive, signed and numbered book THE APOCALYPSE PLAN. In just a few hours, the doors to the Chicago convention were going to open for preview night, and I was fearful that I would A. not get the books in time. B. get the books but not be able to make the preview night C. get run over by a semi (or crazed fan!) on my way to the Donald E. Stephens convention center.

But the books did arrive, my beautiful wife left work early to collect me and drive me to the convention center, I got there in time to meet Dan Dougherty, the artist of the book, and set up our table in Artist Alley.

The doors opened at 4 pm, and Dan and I waited eagerly for the onlslaught of fans clamoring for this book, an exclusive issue of our latest graphic novel with an alternate cover that would ONLY be found on this edition. The book was featured on WizWorld's website and in their program, and Dan and I pimped the hell out of it on our blog (www.apocalypseplan.blogspot.com)... So, yeah, nothing happened for about half an hour, and Dan and I stood by helplessly as dozens and dozens of fans scrambled by our table, stopping only to ask our table number and where they might find Brian Azzarello... sigh.

Finally, at 4:30, two young men dressed in black robes stopped at our table and yelled "Finally!" They were looking for us. For US! Dan and I sold each of them a copy, complete with a signed full color print and an additional short story printed in ashcan form by Dan and me, for $20 a pop. And then we signed everything, waved a tearful goodbye to our two new lifelong friends, and we hugged. Dan and me, not us and the two guys...

By the end of the convention that Sunday, we were almost completely sold out of the book. Best con EVER!

Now all we have to do is wait for December, when the regular edition of THE APOCALYPSE PLAN hits the stores...
