I'm putting this cover up in the Nightwing section because it's the last issue in which I did the interiors.

Ok, well, I tried to ink this particular cover with a #4 brush, because sometimes you think you should do some things difficult to prove your worth as a professional. Thing is, that I'm not as good an inker as I am a penciller. My inking muscles have been dormant for sometime, and I've always felt that Michael Bair does it just right.

Call it ego or call it artistic mojo, I do try to ink as many of my covers as time allows. For the cover of issue #147 (see the covers section) I worked in a #4 brush because the requirements for such a large piece needed to be done with a large brush. I tried to bring that energy to this cover, but it should have been done with my trusty #1, with which I'm more comfortable. Lessened learned: don't give yourself airs until you own them.

Nice design elements though...thought the bats acting like buzzards was a cool concept.

You are right, the bats hovering over the fallen hero does remind me of vultures. It was actually the first thing that went through my mind.

One thing, though, is that it was kinda' hard to separate the stalactites from the bats in a couple of spots. Otherwise, another fantastic piece!

Keep on truckin'!

Yeah, I guess when I was doing the piece I anticipated more of a blue hue to the stalagmites-since that's usually how it's done. But the colorist thought brown was the choice and it kinda flattened out.

Happens in the industry. You can't always anticipate what the next guy is gonna do.

Would've worked nicely if they had the first bat's wing overlap the logo, but there ya go.
