| Bulletin: | Some Norse mythology stuff: For about 2000 years ago, a group people from Tanais, a trading village that is placed where Don-river flows out into the Asovsea(farthest into the Blacksea). Their goal was the islands in the Østersjøen(Baltic Sea) and the mainland at both sides, south Sweden and Jylland in Denmark. Their leaders was Odin, Njord, Frøy and Frøya. In the old writings they are known as Æsene and Vanene(AEsir and Vanir), later Svearne and Danene, which is used in The countrynames Sverige and Danmark (Sweden and Denmark). They fleed their homecountry to get away from the Romean Empire. They supposedly brought with them new technology, culture and religion. A custom the early Vikings had was to chant the names of great warchiefs when they charged their enemies. This was to call upon the strength of the Warchiefs. One of the names that was chanted often was Odin. There is not much written down about this, and many historians are fighting over these facts. But the work done by the late archaeologist Tor Heyerdal and others in his profession in the last ten-twenty years supports this. There are also theories that one of two large group of survivors from Troja founded the city Tanais. The other group where to be called the Etruskians, founders of Rome. I find this really interresting, and I will try to read as much as possible about stuff like this. I will try to post some more later. ![]() |
