| Bulletin: | I just got back from Dragoncon in Atlanta. It was my first con. Imagine acres and acres of fanboys, artists, writers, gamers, cosplayers and celebrities all interacting and then you have the reality that is Dragoncon. I got to chat with Peter David and see George Perez sketch in person! Peter David is an example of a person who has every reason to be egotistical, fake, and a jerk, but is in actuality friendly, helpful, understanding, humble and real. I met briefly several others, the creators behind Owly and The Goon, but meeting Peter David in person was... awesome. Anyway, while there, I was able to attend some short classes and learned much that will help tremendously in my project, which, for now, is titled Exigency. For one thing, plotting has now lost its impenetrable cloak of impossibleness to me. Michael A. Stackpole's lectures on 21 days to a novel have finally imparted some things I wish I had learned long ago. I recommend his lecture/DVD series for anyone who wants to write- he strips away all of the bull and what is left is a very managable pile of bones that you can, er, use? Not sure if my metaphor holds up there, but I think I made my point. I also enjoyed a panel which included the likes of Menton J. Matthews III. He is hardly a household name, but since he's just been picked up by Image, expect to see his stuff out soon. He's an oil painter (!) who averages about one page per day. For anyone out there who knows oil painting, this is extremely fast. His Ars Memoria: The Art of Memory, Book One, looks as beautiful to read as Batman: Arkham Asylum was. My latest Dan Rafter project, Food, is about halfway done. I have been getting hit with many opportunities to work on some very promising looking projects, but unfortunately, I have to turn them down so as to concentrate on Privateer. This does not mean that I won't still enjoy reading your pitch or script, however! On my own project, Exigency, I now have some really good character sketches completed and an idea for an origins-style chapter. Thanks to Ryan Moffet- a true talent. This may very well turn into the makings of an eight page giveaway, or something, later on. With any luck by the November 15th Con I can have something to distribute. Carrying around a homemade printing of old Niteowl stuff at these conventions doesn't exactly express "I know what I am doing." So, well, we'll see. Amazingly, Team Africa is still an ongoing thread over at CBR, thanks to King White. I'll have some art that appears from time to time there. I may actually branch out from Ilembe only and do some other characters eventually. http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=243539&page=13 Also, if you want to read Niteowl/Hawk adventures, go to my CBR art thread here. http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=213405&page=8 Thanks for reading! |
