My name's Rantz. Yes, it's my real name, not some interwub 733TN3ZZ slang/nickname. It's been said by some that it's not so much a name as my state of existence. I disagree with the assessment, usually loudly, and with a prolific number of profane expletives, but that's really neither here nor there.

I’ve been doing comics since 1987, working as a writer, penciller, inker or whatnot for various comics and publishers including Caliber, Fantagraphics and Dark Horse. I’ve been blessed to work with people in comics like Dennis Eichorn, Dave Sim, Doug Moench, Steve Gerber, Bernie Mireault, Ted McKeever, Ted Naifeh, Andrew Brandou and a slew of others in various projects that either never came to fuition, or were only indirectly related to comics.

In the early 90s I did a daily strip called Edge City about college life in the NW during the height of the grunge years. Some of those characters lived to tell the tale, and showed up in my online comic DeathMarch , which will (if everything finally gets sorted out) be relaunched in a new short-story format in early 2007.

In 2005 I made my “full force” return to print comics with an adaptation of the best-selling financial advice book by author Rober Kiyosaki, Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Published by Little Brown, Rich Dad’s Escape from the Rat Race , received praise from parent’s groups, and various financial institution for making complex concepts accessible, interesting, and giving kids something they could relate to by telling them the story of how Robert began to understand how money works as a child.

In May 2008 Derek McCulloch (the Author of the graphic novel Stagger Lee, and the superb late 80s series nightlife ) and I will be releasing an 150 page OGN from Image Comics titled Displaced Persons.

I’ve got other stuff in the hopper besides that, an 'in development anthology book, and a new series I'm writing, not to mention the ‘day job’ as Creative Director for Quicksilver Software, Inc.

I'm alos the creator/host of the post-Warren-Ellis-Engine creator's forum Panel and Pixel because… a.)I think there should be a forum where creators can seriously discuss and dissect the form, and b>) really, like I don't have enough on my plate...

Hey it's nice to run into a SoCal v-game maker. It's also cool to see someone in both video games and comics. It's kind of a weird place to be for me at least because of the many hats but there lots of cool stuff to learn.

Thanks. I'm doing some kind of 'nutty' stuff with the art for the book, so the concept sketches are about as 'normal' as you'll ever see a visual rendition of the characters.

Also the last time they're drawn using 'real world' media, since the whole OGN is being done digitally.

Hey Rantz, Thanks for adding me to your friends!

Pardon this pre - written/forum Seasons Greetings, as always we wish for peace on earth, and in this New Year may you have the wisdom to drink no more than one glass of alcohol for every too of alcohol and not drive… er, no.
That’s water.
One of alcohol and 2 of water- yah - so as to not get a bad hangover due to over conviviality.
And maybe a nice bit of nosh too, a bit of nuts and cheese.
And hey, some roasted meat or appropriate vegetarian substitute - but not tofurky, god that stuff is awful - so you don’t puke and look green like the other day at my friends place – the water that is, so you don’t puke - and the nosh so there is something solid to soak it all up with, bread with it all is really the best - her poor roommate I saw there while waiting to go to the bus station.

And yah, don’t forget to not spend your buss or taxi money on all that like I did once - stick it in your shoe or something, unless you expect to loos those at some point. What was I saying?

Oh yah, so happy New Year all!

Thanks Rantz.

See you on the Engine.

It's good to be gabby. What the hell is the Internet for? Silence?

Thanks for adding me to your friends list. I noticed your name from The Engine.

More importantly, you and I share a common bond. We both know Derek McCulloch. He's told me of Displaced Persons and I'm all excited to see the results!

Still staying busy, hey? That's good to see.

Hi Rantz,
Cool to see you over here. I read your posts all of the time when I'm "lurking" over at The Engine.
