Hey Brandt,
Thanks for the add and the comment. Good luck with your comics and keep on keeping on. It's snowing out here again this morning, a nice crisp 27 degrees Fahrenheit outside. You've got that killer winter ground fog out there on the highway. I think I drove through Redding once on the way from nowhere to nowhere. Good times. Well, have a nice Sunday.

Thanks for adding me to your mountain of friends. I love your work and your spirit. I used to live in L.A., went to high school and college there, but since have been many other places in California and abroad and now I reside in the Green Mountains of Vermont, where we've just had a very welcome and invigorating snowfall, thanks very much. Anyway, you are a lovely and talented girl, I'd have to be blind not to notice. Perhaps we can do some work together some day.

Cheers, and happy new year to you.

Thanks, dudes, for the comment. As for the question, except for the old Hollywood glamour pix, all the photography in Talking Pix is mine, either with my old Nikon FM and 24mm lens on film or with a Canon Powershot expedient digital camera. Your stuff is remarkable, brilliant I might say. I'm guessing you start on paper, then scan in and fine tune on the computer. Do you feel like talking just a bit about your technique?

Yeah, sure. As you've probably seen already, there's four of us, so we all have our own way of doing things. We do start on paper 90% of the time, it's just easier to get an idea down. I myself transfer the drawings to Photoshop, or when I'm animating, Flash. Flash has a great tool (Trace bitmap) which vectors everything for you. Then you just plop in the colour! Not as easy as it sounds usually, unfortunately...

We also do a lot of stencils which should be up on the site soon. Have you ever done any? I really enjoy that side of things, it's a bit messy, but that's the fun part!

Yes, the radioactive bartenders can be a thing of beauty, but they freak me out. Then again, down in Guilford, folks know a thing or two about isotope migration. I'm doing what I can to avoid the fenceline, thanks very much.

All right, Barlow, who knew you were into comics. Tell me more about this "Flowers and Trees" business. Just what does a comics collective do? Sounds subversive. Am I going to get called up in front of a committee and have to name names?

As the late, great Alfonso Bedoya so memorably said in "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" (Warner Bros., 1948), "We don't got to show you no steenkin' badgers!"

Thank you, Emma. But tell me: How did an English girl with an Italian sounding name get into Japanese manga? Shakespeare in comics is very ambitious. The old Classics Illustrated version was my introduction back in the day.

OK, I found it. Gosh, you're good. I love the quality of your lines and there's a Frida Kahlo-ish sadness shot through your attitude. Nice, nice work, Miss Lasko-Gross.
