I am Rob Vollmar, a writer of and about comics from Norman, OK. I manage a pop culture destination in Norman called Atomik Pop! that specializes in comic books, graphic novels, manga, anime, and Hello Kitty products. As a comics writer, my first two graphic novels, The Castaways and Bluesman, were completed with artist Pablo G. Callejo. The Castaways was nominated for an Eisner award in the Best Single Issue/One-Shot category in 2002. I have recently completed a graphic novel with artist mP Mann called INANNA'S TEARS. After serializing it in its entirety at Modern Tales online from January to June of this year, the series has moved into the second leg of its journey as a five issue comic book mini-series from Archaia Studio Press that debuted on August 1st. The series is bi-monthly in full color for $3.95. I regularly contribute reviews to The Comics Journal as well as manga reviews at Manga Worth Reading and sporadically add new critical content at my blog, Ramble On. I read a wide cross section of comics from superheroes to shoujo manga and just about every expensive stop between. I'm very much digging the Virgin Comics line of late as well as manga by Matsuri Akino (GENJU NO SEIZA), Minetaro Mochizuki (DRAGON HEAD), and, of course, all the Tezuka I can lay my hands on. My favorite self-contained comics creators right now are Kevin Huizenga, Marc Bell, Renee French, Danijel Zezelj, and Eddie Campbell.

"Inanna's Tears" is beautiful and amazing so far. I can't think of a better group of favorites and influences, either. 2 Replies [ Latest posted on January 1st, 2007 5:20 PM ]

Hey thanks for the feedback on IT! On an aside note, I loved Calvino's "T Zero" and have heard great things about "Winter Night". Thanks for stopping by! ROB |

"Invisible Cities" seems most up my alley, personally... that's my next target. But I've got too many damned books on the shelf as it is - I think 2007 is my year for the Russian classics. |

As a ComicSpace friend, may I ask you to help support the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (www.moccany.org)? Become a member today! Thanks. (I was sooo tempted to just post "Thanks for the add!") |

Dang, until mpMann posted I really was gonna go for the "thanks for the add" response. No really. Anyways, I wanted to have you in my list of friends once I saw you were working with the esteemed mpMann, so um--I appreciate the add (notice the avoidance of "thanks") and good luck on your upcoming releases. |

hey Rob!
I refuse to say, "Thanks for the add." An endless list of "Thanks for the add" is what makes these comment boards a bore. Everyone should delete these, "Thanks for the add" comments from their boards. Bad Netiquette.
So instead, I'll say to all your new friends... Rob is the writer of Inanna's Tears, the graphic novel that has be busy these days. We are 75 pages into this 125 page project, and its shaping well, I'd say.
We'll go live with it at ModernTales Strip Lounge the first week of January, 2007. Ya gotcher swords, ya gotcher scantily attired peeps, ya got a nasty villian and a noble defender of the fair maiden.
But mostly you have people trying to do their best, but as is so often the case, what is best for one person conflicts with what is best for another.
Inanna's Tears is a political tragedy set in Sumer, circa 3000 BCE, and Rob's passion for the material is evident on every page. Check us out starting next week.
Rob, you post a link yet? 1 Reply [ Latest posted on December 30th, 2006 1:38 AM ]
