I've been reading comics since about 1986. I've had a long history with both Marvel and DC.
I'm from Canada, originally Nova Scotia but now in Toronto.
Married with a baby.

I'm going to try and use this a a review page for comics I'm reading but we'll see what I can do.
Let's see if I generate any interest at all (also known as: Please leave a comment and start a discussion!)
Thanks,
J

WIRY 12: Iron Man 13 & 14, Civil War tie-ins. Well, at least Tony doesn't seem like the ass that he is in most of the CW issues. This at least provides some basis for why he feels the way he does. I like the art from Zircher, not over done but fun. No why do the "rebels" attack, is my question? A parley is a parley and The Capatin would know that. These were a pick up as I ran out of books so not bad, 7 of 10 and 8 of 10. For those who read this, I hope that this isn;t the end we see of HH.

WIRY 11: Fantastic Four 541 - the Thing is France, OK. Filler issue and it wasn't bad. I'm picking this up on the fly for CW, I'll be interested to see what happens after JMS leaves. Will the Black Panther and Storm join the FF? 7 of 10. Annihilation 4 - is that not the most awesome cover with Thanos? Rarely am I so happy with a cover and the story to go with it. Giffen is still one of the best writters out there, no matter the universe (Marvel, DC, Boom!), 9 of 10. Firestorm 31 - I like this team, I like this book, I've been on and off since issue 1 but I've been happy with the 1YL stories, 8 of 10.

WIRY 10: Teen Titans 40 & 41. Before 1 Year Later, I did not read this title. Johns is building to something and I'm not sure what yet (unless this is all for Titans East, in which case I do) but there is still some potential here. Art is solid by Tony Daniel, he's finally starting to find hos style and I remember 10 years ago when he was terrible, 7 of 10. Tales of the Unexpected 2 - uh, this is terrible. Sorry no reviews for 3-8 here as I've dropped it. Slow and doesn;t feel like it is going anywhere. Even the Doctor 13 backup can't keep me interested. I was expecting more horror from this and it's not even a good mystery, 2 of 10.

WIRY 9 - Astonishing X-Men 18 was OK, I think I'm losing touch with why this is so fantastic. Cassaday's art is solid but Whedon leaves me a bit cold. I think the characters are just so far from the norm but based in Morrison reality. Crazy Scott with no optic beam, yeah that'll last, 7 of 10. Wolverine Origins 8: eh. I thought that this was a good idea for a book but these 6 issue arcs are killing it. A good Wolverine story used to be 2-3 issues and we could move on. All of the "revelations" are so-so and I'm not feeling the love for Wolverine, 6 of 10.

WIRY 8: Quick ones today. Amazing Spider-Girl 2 - I didn't get on this bandwagon until "Amazing" and I don;t love it. If I were 15 years younger I think it would be more important. As it is, I gave it a try and I'm stopping. DeFalco is great and Frenz is awesome but it doesn't work for me (6 of 10). 52 week 26-30 - Stuff happens, are they really going to kill the Question? Will Rennee tale the mantle? It seems like I'm being led there so I doubt it. I'm most happy with the Black Adam story as he needed a solid backstory/family. Also, Adam Strange must have some big stories after this as the poor guy is falling apart. This is the one title that is hard to have delivered monthly (7 of 10). Aquaman 45 & 46 - I worry about Tad Williams taking over this title. I like hos writing but Busiek was setting up majot plots here and I doubt Aquaman will last a year beyond the trade without a major change in status. I'm considering the drop (6 of 10, 7 of 10)

WIRY 7; Icons today. First it was Batman 658 and 659. Okay, I'm the first to admit that I like Grant Morrison. I read all of Seven Soldiers and Seaguy and The Filth and others. His Batman is okay and I'm sure this whole Batman's son thing will be interesting. Good art by Kubert. 659 was the opposite, this felt like Batman old school. Being the detective and the playboy without having to worry about history. Both get and 8 of 10. Wonder Woman 3 - I'm having trouble with this one. I like what Rucka was doing and Hienberg has not been up to the task (proof by being so slow). That and too many people already know who Diana Prince is (so much for secret identities). The Dodson's are solid, met them this summer, they were very nice and have a large height difference. 5 of 10. Action Comics 845 - again with the superhero's son. Donner's influence here is unmistakable but I like what they are doing even if I have a hard time with this. My biggest worry here is how do we deal with having a "Superkid"? Bizarro was off character (attributed to watching TV for 13 months, I guess?), no where near as funny as when Jeph Loeb handles him. 7 of 10. Last on the list is Amazing Spider-Man 536 - Civil War tie-in. Well, at least I read PWJ first but it looks like CW 6 handles how that goes down. JMS is good, Garney is better, I've liked him since his Captain America run (the first one, before the reboot). Where will it go from here? 8 of 10.

WIRY 6: Ultimate Fantastic Four 36 & Omega Men 2. UFF was the first issue since Mike Carey started that I didn't love. I like that he's actually changing the characters instead of creating the same think but "Ultimate". Thanos is awesome (and was always one of my favorite villians) 9 out of 10. Omega Men, I've already cancelled this series. It just hasn't worked for me and the art (Henry Flint) is trying to be like the Biz but is rougher but not in a good way. This spillover from the Rann/Thanagar was hasn't worked and it's trying to wrap up pieces from GLC: Recharge as well (or that's what it feels like). 4 out of 10.

Hey, always good to meet a fellow Canadian!
Welcome aboard!
I was also hoping to post some reviews when the site is fully operational or if it will have some sort of blog option.
You have been added.

WIRY 5: Blue Beetle #9 and Eternals #5. BB - OK, compared to #8, I liked this one. Maybe it's Duncan, maybe we're starting to develop some characters and the cast a little more. 7 out of 10. Eternals is something I'm trying to understand and #5 has started to put the pieces together. The challenge is that Neil takes 5 issues to build this up and with only 1 (or 2) issues to go, I never feel like I get the big climax I expect. 8 out of 10 thanks to JR Jr.

WIRY 4: Not much, busy weekend. I read a couple of chapters of Brad Meltzer's new book "The Book Of Fate". Love the Meltzer, read Identity Crisis, read his Green Arrow run. Still up in the air with JLoA, it's a slow burn and I'm not from the generation that loved Black Lightning, Red Tornando and others.

I think I'll start calling this "WIRY" (What I Read Yesterday).
I read Blue Beetle #8. Rogers and Giffen are trying to take this someplace and I'm sure it's good but it is taking it's time getting there. With Giffen leaving the book, this one is on shallow ground very soon as I didn;t love the Rogers issue. Art has been a struggle and keeps changing pace, sometimes with Cully Hamner, sometimes Duncan Rouleau and then Casey Jones. I'm about to cut this one off. Reading issue 9 soon, it may determine the outcome.

What I read yesterday: Hawkgirl 58 & JSA Classified 19. Hawkgirl was OK but it has never really came together like I was hoping. Walt Simonson has skills as a writer but it hasn't worked here. JSA was a Doc. Midnight story that was an alright concept (also being used in X-Men right now) but I'm starting to loose intersts here as well.

What I read yesterday: Punisher War Journal #1 (Great read but I wonder how long Ariel can keep up the art. I suspect there will be fill-in artist by the 5th issue.)
