for months now i've been talking about the War of Independents & the big Jetta/Shi crossover that's coming out this summer. the whole purpose of the War of Independents was to bring together a number of participating independent comic book artists/writers/creators/publishers as a singular force to be reckoned w/; to bring attention to the little guys. you know, the 1s who don't have big contracts w/ marvel/dc, the 1s who aren't distributed by diamond *cough monopoly cough*, the 1s who work 9-5 jobs & still find time to work on their comics @ nite & over the weekends, the 1s who pass on that vacation in the bahamas/buying the new ps3 to save their pennies so they can print their comic books on their own.

MAW Productions had the incredible luck (or maybe some1 up there thought we could finally use a break) to be invite into the War by dave ryan, an awesome guy who helped us team up w/ fellow indy comic book creator william tucci & his character, Shi. Shi (literally means' death in japanese) is warrior mixed w/ japanese & american heritage whose feelings of vengeance conflict w/ her christian upbrining. Jetta is a japanese ninja who struggles w/ being her clan's prophesized 'chosen one'. both girls are beautiful & totally bad ass fighters. it was natural that they teamed up. :)

we've read quite a few crossover books & were disappointed time & again that characters were written out of character, & sometimes past storylines were completely ignored/dismissed. we didn't want to add to that disappointment, so we made sure to research the Shi character before we laid down the script to our crossover book, "Arrow of Destiny".  we decided the best thing to do was acknowledge Shi's ancestral history, give a little insight into Jetta's ancestral history, & tie it all in to an actual event that happened centuries ago.

so here's the premise to Jetta/Shi - "Arrow of Destiny"...

This summer, the Toshigawa Ninja, Jetta, will team up with the legendary Shi in a battle to protect the earth from an army of the dead!

It was Japan in 1582. Oda Nobunaga was a cruel and bloodthirsty warlord. In his efforts to unify Japan, he slaughtered thousands of innocent men, women, and children, even killing the Sohei warrior monks of the Hiei Monastery and killing the head of the Toshigawa clan. Oda Nobunaga was killed by a poisoned arrow, shot by Tokoshi Toshigawa. This sacred arrow has been protected through the ages as it holds the key to unlock great evil.

Fast forward to present day Japan. After years of undisturbed peace, an unknown evil threatens Honno-Ji again. Tenkai, a mysterious monk, must call on the help of a descendant of the Sohei (Shi) and the descendant of the Toshigawa (Jetta) to honor an age-old promise to protect the Arrow of Nobunaga.

As part of the upcoming event “War of the Independents”, Jetta will partner with the legendary Shi in this huge crossover event. Shi and Jetta find their pasts intertwine in this action packed lead in to the “War of the Independents” six-issue mega event.
