Exiled from the moneyed domain of computer games, I make my way through the less-exalted but far more interesting world of comicsdom.

I mostly create art, and secondarily edit/direct, for Big Head Press, an indie publishing venture. In recent years I've produced two graphic novels: A Drug War Carol, and The Probability Broach: The Graphic Novel. Currently I'm working on Roswell, Texas, with writer L. Neil Smith. The first two have been print-published already, though all of them can be viewed for free on the Web.

I've also edited two books by Mike Baron which were serialized on the Web this year and will see print next year: The Architect and The Hook; and presently I'm directing Adi Tantimedh and Hugo Petrus on their new book La Muse, which began Web serialization in January 2007.

In a previous life, I created comics for Malibu Graphics. I was co-creator of The Rovers, guest-pencilled an issue of Dinosaurs For Hire, designed about 40 logos, colored about 50 covers (I was one of the first to start using the airbrush-shading effects in comics, back in 1986, that are so ubiquitous now), and created the world's first all-computer-generated porno comic, Love Bytes. (Which should have been titled Cyberpussy, but the publisher chickened out.)

During my stint with Malibu I also wrote and drew an issue of a series I called GAMBIT. How that title came to be better known as the name of a second-string Marvel Mutant is one of my favorite Marvel-dalenda-est stories.

Someday soon, by Gum, I'm gonna write and draw my own graphic novel.

Hi there! We’re starting up this year’s Small Press Idol…and wanted to invite you to the grand unveiling of this year’s Guidelines. I apologize for the all-in-one nature of this. At this time, individuals and teams have a little over a month to get things together and be ready to post their Round 1 entries. Round 1 will last till March 25th. It’s a solid window to get a project together and qualified for Round 2 past our judge panel. If you are interested in being a contestant, this is fair warning to get a project going!
If you are a news outlet or resource of any sort, we invite you to help spread the word about Small Press Idol, and get on the official Sponsors and Supporters list on the Idol Main Page. Traditionally, the page has gotten hundreds of thousands of hits a month for the 5 months the contest runs. All we ask in return for the link placement on our prominently placed list, is a link back in some way that is fairly prominent, and that you indeed cover the contest if you are a news site. You can contact us about that right from the guidelines page.
Just want to watch the show? That’s great! Now is time to sign up at the site so you can VOTE in the rounds to come, and post comments about your favorites! We’re expecting hundreds of contestants this year. It should be a lot of fun!

Hope this message reaches you in the spirit it was intended, you are welcome to ask questions, and otherwise make sure this is for real. This is the fourth year for the SPI. Last year’s contest pages are still online. So that’s what this is about, hope it interests you!

Well, I may be sharing it with a friend whose wife died last week. If he's up to company. Share the love and all that.

Please give him my condolences. That's a hard road to walk during the holidays. My heart goes out to him.

Hey Scott, Thanks for adding me to your friends!

Pardon this pre - written/fourm Seasons Greetings, as always we wish for peace on earth, and in this New Year may you have the wisdom to drink no more than one glass of alcohol for every too of alcohol and not drive… er, no.
That’s water.
One of alcohol and 2 of water- yah - so as to not get a bad hangover due to over conviviality.
And maybe a nice bit of nosh too, a bit of nuts and cheese.
And hey, some roasted meat or appropriate vegetarian substitute - but not tofurky, god that stuff is awful - so you don’t puke and look green like the other day at my friends place – the water that is, so you don’t puke - and the nosh so there is something solid to soak it all up with, bread with it all is really the best - her poor roommate I saw there while waiting to go to the bus station.

And yah, don’t forget to not spend your buss or taxi money on all that like I did once - stick it in your shoe or something, unless you expect to loos those at some point. What was I saying?

Oh yah, so happy New Year all!

Yeah, it seems like everyone from The Engine is here -- and in regards to your comment, I'm still looking for the bar -- probably over by the crowd encircling Warren...

I can't say enough about "A Drug War Carol" -- I still spread the gospel and I think it's certainly a ground-breaking title that should have legs long into the future.
