Green Arrow Pencils by Scott McCullar / Story by Chuck Dixon

About seven years ago, Chuck Dixon wrote a short Green Arrow story for me so that I could practice pencilling from a script. This was the result for my portfolio. This is an unpublished story that took place between Green Arrow #92-93.

I've known Steve Bryant and Brent Irwin for several years now.

I met them at the Chicago Con. I was in the artist alley and Darren Sanchez, who I've known for several years now, told me to show them my portfolio. So I did. Mike Hall really liked my work so about 6 months later I was penciling a mini series he wrote. They really are cool guys.

I haven't seen any of the strips. I pick up an occasional Moonstone comic book. My favorite Phantom stories are the Lee Falk paperbacks I still have from the early 70's.

Thanks for adding me to your list. I see you are doing some work for Denny O'Neal. His writing is a bid reason for my "geekness."

Always nice to meet a fellow fan of both Denny AND the Phantom.
Are you reading Graham Nolan's PHANTOM strips?

Steve Bryant (Athena Voltaire) lives about 60 miles north of me in Normal. Tim Bradstreet used to live there too, but moved a few years ago out west.

Tom Artis also lives in these neck of the woods, but last I heard, he was really really sick and in the hospital. I haven't heard what has happened to him these past few months. I hope he is doing better.

Hey Rusty!

I've been familiar with your work for over 10 years now. Maybe longer than that going back to the HQ QUARTERLY magazine. I'm a vintage G.I. Joe action figure collector and member of the GI Joe Collector's Club.

Nice to 'meet you' out here in cyberspace.

Shooting Star Comics, LLC quietly announced on our website that we're suspending all operations back in October. No big press release. Just a hushed and somewhat subdued farewell.

Sadly, due to a variety of factors that have been straining our
company for over a year, the business partners have decided that it
was time to dissolve the company and say goodbye. We truly haven't
published any books for mass market distribution in nearly 18 months
and it would have probably been another 6 months before anything else
was even ready at the rate all of the creative teams were working.
We've had countless projects stall or abort. It was frustrating.

I have lots of mixed feelings about the end of Shooting Star Comics.
If you're reading the news for the first time here... thanks for the
support over the years. I'm truly sorry it came down to this. I'm not
bitter, just disappointed. We had a good run and it was a great
experience. Sure, we had our good, bad and ugly moments, but the
personal lives of all those involved behind the scenes couldn't keep
this truly running in the proper way it needed to be ran.

I appreciate ALL the guys involved. All of 'em and I still hope to
cross paths with them in the future as we remain friends.

Still waiting on that pesky Green Arrow DC Archive.
Thanks for the add, Scott!

I spoke to Bob Greenberger before he was let go about the subject. Back then, he said if DC was ever going to release an archive for our beloved Battling Bowmen, he was going to keep me in mind surely to write the intro.

But alas, he said he just didn't think the interest was there for an archive.

A year later, we've got the GREEN ARROW Showcase. Really nice. I enjoy it. But man, do I wish we could have all the early MORE FUN, WORLD'S FINEST and ADVENTURE material from pre-1956 also collected too.

I just picked up SUPERMAN Archive Volume 7 yesterday.
