October Gnomon Workshop Contest

So things seemed to work out last month in the contest on the Gnomon Forums so I had to enter again when I saw that the theme was "dearly departed". My image is a sad day in the life of the Baron, after hiring scores of monkeys to take care of chores around the house he has seen there numbers quickly dwindle as the help discovers how fun (and dangerous) it is to jump on the bed.

Somewhat inspired by a James Jean illustration. If you don't know who that is go to his site NOW!

And to check out an awesome, free contest with great prizes that takes place every month go to The Gnomon Workshop.com

The Gnomon Workshop Contest

So recently I decided that I would like to learn how to use Maya better so that I can do more then just stack gray squares. I have always wanted to get professional instructional videos (I know it's DVDs but that just doesn't sound as instructional) from Gnomon Workshop and this seemed like a great reason to do that, but even better, once at their website I realized that they run monthly contests on their forums where you can win their professional instructional videos. I have no money and I love contests so I put together an entry. This months (Sept.) theme was cliff dwelling and here is my entry.

Check out the Gnomon Workshop for yourself at The Gnomon Workshop.com

Horrorwood Trade Cover

I just finished this cover for Horrorwood Volume 1 Trade.

It's now available for preorder in this month's Diamond Previews, (Order Code AUG07 3370) so go order it and go check out my friend Brent Schoonover's frequently updated website for more info!

And for those of you who are maybe a little TOO curious about these 2 comic creators there will be a special Directors Cut Edition. It comes with a DVD feature on the making of the book and interviews and an image gallery... Brent has also promised me he is also going to be documenting his extensive knowledge of street magic slight of hand on the DVD, which he performs under the name "Brent Angel"... or maybe I just made that up, either way you are going to have to buy the DVD to find out.

Comic Challenge 2007 Finalist

UPDATE 7-30-07 : SADLY MY PITCH WAS NOT PICKED TO CONTINUE IN THE COMPETITION

So I learned that my pitch, J.O.B. and the Forever Five, was picked as a top 50 finalist in Platinum Studios Comic Challenge! Which means I will be going to San Diego to pitch the idea in person on July 26th. If I make it into the next round of the contest it is than decided by YOU through voting on the internets! So stay tuned for details. I have posted my pitch below - the art for the pitch is available in the gallery, surprisingly titled J.O.B. and the Forever Five. Thanks and check back for updates!

J.O.B. and the Forever Five
by: Scott Schomburg

The year is 2015. As monstrous killing machines from space destroy city after city, the world’s remaining governments make one last attempt to save all of humanity. The world’s most powerful company, Forester Locke, with funding from the U.S. government, has discovered a mysterious underground vault containing the world’s best chance for survival, the Joint Operations Battlestation (J.O.B.), an unstoppable machine of unknown potential who is only operable by a few select humans – each with a distinct DNA lineage marker called the Omega Strain.

1. Thomas C. Prescott – was a foot soldier in the American army when his DNA tested positive for the Omega Strain. Although they doubt his leadership abilities, he has been placed as the leader of the J.O.B. so as to give the US a controlling agent within J.O.B. He controls JOB’s torso.

2. Mai Kai – was a system program supervisor in the Japanese military when she was discovered to posses the Omega Strain. She is expected to find out as much as she can about technology inside J.O.B. as Japan is weary about the US having such a weapon. She controls JOB’s left leg.

3. Abdul Shaak Raman – was a demolitions specialist in the Middle East. Now he finds he must work for the government that perpetrates the western ideals that he once pledged to destroy. He controls J.O.B.’s left hand.

4. Comrade 332 – a former political prisoner from the Ukraine, the man known as 332 had been abused so badly in captivity that he is now kept in a liquid stasis unit so as to keep him alive enough to still activate the J.O.B. Although 332 is in a deep coma the Russian team of scientists that back him up have created a crude electronic system of controlling the J.O.B. through 332. As he was the only human to posses the Omega Strain that activates J.O.B.’s right arm (Which is assumed to be his most powerful limb) the Russians see this as their best chance to learn the secrets of the J.O.B. They control J.O.B.’s right hand.

5. Afua – was a young Somalia who tested positive for the Omega Strain while staying at a refugee camp in northern Africa. His family was later kidnapped by local militia as a ransom to gain influence over Afua and J.O.B. He hopes to save the earth and take revenge on the warmongers that now run rampant over his homeland. He controls J.O.B.’s right leg.

From the thirteen people worldwide that they have found capable of activating one of the five cockpits within J.O.B., these brave five were handed the fate of the world. Can they look past there own differences and the influences of their warring governments to combat the evil from space that now threatens the extinction of life as we know it? What is the significance of the Omega Strain and who are the mysterious creators of the J.O.B.? All will be answered forever, in J.O.B. and the Forever Five!

Friendly Neighborhood Hombre

A recently created image of this superhero I came up with... I call him "el hombre con las energías de una araña"

J.O.B. and the Forever Five

Proposal for the 2007 comic book challenge - I heard about it sort of last minute so the art came together in a hurry. I also did some robot sketches in the development stages. FYI - there is no excessive gore or sexual content present in my logo.

I love your paints. Your illustrative style is great. Lends itself to a lot of different media.

Your art for Twilight Imperium is amazing. I've always wished I could find larger versions of it to use as wallpaper, but sadly I've never seen anything like that.

I especially love the Naalu illustrations.

Great work.

Some truly astounding artwork here. I especially love the troll asleep in the archway picture.

Keep up the great work!
