Years back I started Too Much Coffee Man. I drew it as a weekly strip, a comic book, and graphic novels. 2000-2005 I published Too Much Coffee Man as a humor magazine loaded with other people's work in addition to my own. I put it on hiatus to do an opera... it is the first comic book opera. 3 singers accompanied by 3 instruments. It was about an hour. We sold out every show of our extended run. You can read more about it here.

These days I draw a weekly strip called How to Be Happy that runs in a dozen alt weekly newspapers and I draw a second strip called Postage Stamp Funnies that is printed in the Onion.

I read How To Be Happy this morning and loved "The Knitted Fish". Great little poem.

I don't know about a dvd of the opera. I have mixed feelings. I hate opera on tv - it's brings out the worst of both worlds. I'd like to do a cd and maybe animate it.

Do you have any of those really cool Japanese bootleg t-shirts left? I was a kid when I saw that picture in the comic book store, too young to buy one. The image always stuck with me, and now I can't find any anywhere! Let me know and Happy Holidays!

I second the notion of having a Japanese bootleg shirt. I wanted one for a long time, and never ordered one. Now that they seem to be unavailable, I want one EVEN MORE!

Hope you got the small package I sent. Don't worry...it's not anything explosive or that you must feed.

I've been trying to get my gf into comics for a long time now...I thought I'd give her Maus to start off with. She's read about three pages. That was four months ago. I might try TMCM,it seemed to work for one person here! Thanks for giving me hope!

Merry X-mas from the guys at Illustrator's Lounge, swing by any time

You're a modern day philosopher, sir.

You poor bastard.

Wish I could've seen the opera!

Thanks for the TooMuchCoffeeMan, man. Shannon, thanks for the add. Your work excites me!

Hi Shannon. Thanks for adding me. I was a fan of TMCM and wondered what you were up to these days.

[ Posted by BJDuVall on Dec 20th, 2006 3:14 AM ]...

Shannon! TMCM is awesome, and I miss him. Your comic is the only one that my wife will read... and I have been trying to get her into comics for almost ten years. She actually got me into TMCM not the other way around. I was floored to hear that the opera actually happened. I live in MI, and I think I would've considered flying out to see it if I knew about it in time (I remember hearing rumblings about it in the magazine, but I didn’t believe it would happen). I wish you would resurrect either the comic or the magazine, or launch TMCM into yet another new form. I hear that there was a comedy central cartoon in the works at some point... that would’ve been interesting. You know, ever since I read (I think it was #9) whenever anyone makes a joke about the famous coffee lawsuit, I vehemently defend the truth and cite you as the source. I once brought my philosophy class to a screeching halt over that issue. So thanks for that, among other things. Your best work will always be #6 and #7... probably the single best two issues ever... I kid of course. If you ever feel inclined, drop me a line, you would be making a die hard fan’s day.

Hey, thanks for the add Shannon! Long time fan here!

Pardon this pre - written/fourm Seasons Greetings
As always we wish for peace on earth.
And in this New Year may you have the wisdom to drink no more than one glass of alcohol for every too of alcohol and not drive… er, no?

That’s water, one of alcohol and 2 of water- so as to not get a bad hangover due to over conviviality.

And maybe a nice bit of nosh too, a bit of nuts and cheese.

And hey, some roasted meat or appropriate vegetarian substitute - but not tofurky, god that stuff is awful - so you don’t puke and look green like the other day at my friends place – the water that is, so you don’t puke - and the nosh so there is something solid to soak it all up with, bread with it all is really the best - her poor roommate I saw there while waiting to go to the bus station.

And yah, don’t forget to not spend your buss or taxi money on all that like I did once - stick it in your shoe or something, unless you expect to loos those at some point. What was I saying?

Oh yah, so happy New Year!

Someone recently posted on our INNOCENT webcomic that it's a lot like TMCM. I don't see the similarity but I appreciate one of our books getting compared to the latte, great Shannon Wheeler.

You showed us the way, man. I still cherish those books and the stories you told. I SO want to see a live action movie. It would be great!

Alright! The other guy named Shannon! Good to see you on here, buddy!

[ Posted by RyanRichards on Dec 9th, 2006 11:45 AM ]...

You're partially to blame. Back in the nineties it was all bright colors and gorgeous people punching each other to make the world better. Then you had to come along and show the joy that could be found in the black and white.
