Shojinstudios
Ok, so you know I'm not gonna speak in 3rd person, here it goes... I was born in Lima Peru, came to the US of A when I was 7, and have lived here in Chicago ever since. I'm married to a gorgeous vixen named Jackie and I have 2 beautiful kids Bijan and Aiden. I've been fortunate enough to be mentored by the great Rafael Nieves one of the most prolific storytellers I have ever met and a big influence in my life. Another Titan in the field I've been able to befriend and call teacher has been Norm Dwyer. A great artisan and 3D artist, He was first at introducing me to the world of 3D animation. Tony Maldonado and Johnny Gomez are fellow artists, superhumanly talented craftsmen, but more than that, they are my brothers, and huge influences in my life.
I have been able to meet Greats in the industry, thanks in part to the great artistic community in Chicago, some I can even call friends. people like Tony Akins, LaMorris Richmond, Sal Abbinanti, Gary Gianni, Doug Klauba, Barry Crain, Angel Medina, Jill Thompson, Brian Azzarello, Alex Ross to name a few. I've been also fortunate enough to be part of both the comic book and 3D industry. I've drawn concept character art for various game and animation companies in both Chicago and California. I've directed and supervised two 3D animation specials and also played the role of art director for both. I've also adapted the wacom stylus pen and board as tools for various multimedia programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark, InDesign, Painter, 3DMax, Premiere Pro and Combustion. I was also a player in the birth of "the guardian line" a comic line here in Chicago under Michael Davis. I now act as senior art director for Hernandez & Garcia LLC an advertising and PR firm in Chicago. We have clients like McDonald's, Coca-Cola, Chicago White Sox, Goya foods and others. Some of my greatest influences aside from the gentlemen named above are Tony Akins (a legendary craftsman among us mere mortals), Bernie Wrightson, Michael Kaluta, Jeff Jones, Barry Windsor-Smith, Gary Gianni, Doug Klauba, Dana Gibson, Neal Adams, Robert McGinnis, Frank Frazetta, Joseph Clement Coll, Alphonse Mucha, Vargas, Boris, Julie Bell, Alex Ross, Jim Silke, Gil Evlgren, Milo Manara, Luis Amendola, Victoria Frances, Juan Gimenez, Sal and John Buscema, Buzz, Azpiri, Art Adams, Claire Wendiling, Bret blevins, Billy Martinez, Dean Yeagle, Chris Sanders, Bill Waterson, Andy Dimitt, Frank Cho, Adam Hughes, Terry Dobson, Jo Chen, Fracis Leinil Yu, Shigeru Katoh, D.K, Opon, Katsuya Tarada, Kim Hyung-Tae, Tetsuya Nomura... just to name a few.
