Ah, once a Denverite, always a Denverite. We've got a few folks in our catalog that used to live here that moved away. But, if you're ever in this neck o' the woods on a second Sunday of the month, stop by our monthly meeting at Common Grounds (32nd & Lowell)

Yeah, I like to think that the Squid Works is a group that brings creators in Colorado together. We have monthly meetings every second Sunday of the month at Common Grounds at 32nd and Lowell in Denver. I'd like to extend an open invitation to you if you would like to attend. You can see upcoming meetings and other events our members are involved in at www.squidworks.com/events.html

There's no shame in admitting that -- seems everyone who has lived here has some of Colorado in their hearts no matter where they move.

Hi there,

I thought that your group may be interested in becoming an affiliate of the International Cartoonist Conspiracy. We're a loose international organization of cartoonists. We include both professional cartoonists and amateur doodlers among our membership... membership is open to all cartoonists regardless of gender, race, age, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, attractiveness, wit, or talent. Only the desire to produce comics is necessary.

We've been conspiring since December 2002, and currently have active cartoonist cells in Minneapolis MN, San Francisco CA, Calgary/Edmonton, Chicago IL, Lancaster PA, Milwaukee WI, Montreal, Rice MN, Sacramento CA, Sioux Falls SD and Springfield IL. The most active cells meet once or twice a month to draw jam comics or participate in other activities, put out publications, and arrange gallery shows and other events.

What are the benefits in becoming a cell of the conspiracy?

1) Promotion. We'll give you a section of our message board, which can include a permanent link to whatever website you have for your group at the top of it. This is a good place to organize events and activities for your cell. We can also give a member of your group the ability to publish whatever your group wants on our group blog, which is the homepage of the site.

2) An international group of collaborators. Anyone can start an account on our message board to discuss and organize whatever they wish.

Let me know if you have any questions. If this appeals to your group and I'll set up your section of the message board and a blog account for whoever you wish to have one. Regardless, best of luck to you and your group.

Best wishes,

Steven Stwalley

Thanks for the invite, Steven. You've contacted us once before, but your e-mail is still saved and flagged in our inbox and I haven't had the chance to take any action. I think it would be beneficial from a networking standpoint, but as you probably know with ComicSpace, every additional effort takes extra time. Our main goal is to keep things simple and see where it takes us from there, so I'll be back in touch at some point if not immediately.

Thanks,
Stan Yan

Not particularly, but one of our members Stan Yan is illustrating a mini-series for Ape Entertainment called "SubCulture" that would definitely resonate with fans of Batman and other mainstream titles and with those who love them (the fans). Check out some sample pages at www.subculturecomic.com. Issue 1 is coming to February Previews.

Hi there! We’re starting up this year’s Small Press Idol…and wanted to invite you to the grand unveiling of this year’s Guidelines. I apologize for the all-in-one nature of this. At this time, individuals and teams have a little over a month to get things together and be ready to post their Round 1 entries. Round 1 will last till March 25th. It’s a solid window to get a project together and qualified for Round 2 past our judge panel. If you are interested in being a contestant, this is fair warning to get a project going!
If you are a news outlet or resource of any sort, we invite you to help spread the word about Small Press Idol, and get on the official Sponsors and Supporters list on the Idol Main Page. Traditionally, the page has gotten hundreds of thousands of hits a month for the 5 months the contest runs. All we ask in return for the link placement on our prominently placed list, is a link back in some way that is fairly prominent, and that you indeed cover the contest if you are a news site. You can contact us about that right from the guidelines page.
Just want to watch the show? That’s great! Now is time to sign up at the site so you can VOTE in the rounds to come, and post comments about your favorites! We’re expecting hundreds of contestants this year. It should be a lot of fun!

http://www.dimestoreproductions.com/SmallPressIdol
/Idol07/index.html

Hope this message reaches you in the spirit it was intended, you are welcome to ask questions, and otherwise make sure this is for real. This is the fourth year for the SPI. Last year’s contest pages are still online. So that’s what this is about, hope it interests you!
