Stan Yan grew up in Denver, Colorado and went to school at the University of Colorado in Boulder where he got his bachelor’s degree in accounting. Due to the lack of sex-for-recruiting for accounting students, Yan’s life took the tragic turn into sales for the securities industry, where he wallowed in ethical poverty on-and-off for thirteen years. Yan takes his frustrations out by penning graphic novels such as The Wang. In 2005, Yan has gave up on financial security and become a full-time freelance cartoonist, illustrating SubCulture for Ape Entertaiment, creating comic strips for the financial and sales industry, and picking up odd illustration and teaching jobs when folks are feeling agonizing pity for him. Do your conscience a favor and hire him. You can find him at squidworks.com/Stan

SubCulture by Kevin Freeman and Stan Yan
• “…a book that’s a must for fans of the strip and of geek culture in general.” ~Jeff Schutze, JefBot 3/2/09
• "The highlight of the book is the art. Stan Yan has a great eye for setting up a panel and laying out a page. Each page has a minimum of four different perspectives, yet is easy to follow. His figures are visually entertaining, and all of his characters are easy to to identify." ~Garbonzo, Stumptown Trade Review 2/1/09

RE: Is Penny Arcade dissing me?

I would say not. If that was posted on YOUR website, maybe, but if that is a typical banner for them on OTHER sites, then I would take it as a compliment.

Booyah.

Dang, Stan... I have an inlaw that is having a B-day, so I may not be able to make it down. If I can't make it down tonight, I'll have to try for a Squidworks meet. Eitherway, 'hope to meet up soon!

RE: My 24 Hour Comic is now online!

Very cool, Stan! I was riveted. It makes me want to visit Hawaii, steal a rock, and see what happens.

Thanks!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I had no idea whether or not I put in too many inside jokes for my family for it to be entertaining. I WOULD highly recommend visiting and having someone like Chuck take you to all the great places that the tour buses don't go to and all the restaurants that are the local faves.
