Thanks Willy. It's always so good to get such positive feedback. There's always the worry that I'll do something like this and I'm the only person getting the humour.

Hey Steve, how is everything? I havn't been on here in a little while. The business is finally 'taking off' a little, so we've been working hard trying to keep it that way. The new gallery is very cool, I love all that vector type jazz. Have you heard of a guy called Rian Hughes? I've been looking at his stuff a lot recently, it's amazing what people can do without even picking up a pencil these days! Anywho, I reckon my gran probably has a better social life than me, too...(moan!)

Good to hear that the business is moving forward. I hope it continues to do so.
My new gallery doesn't have any vector based art - but I'm glad you like it anyway. :)
I know of Rian Hughes, though with my addled brain I'm struggling to remember his stuff... |

Thanks Willy.
Yes and no.
Yes in the sense that all our creations are, in part, an extension of us. Certainly, some of my thoughts and feelings are going to be a part of the strip.
No because neither of them is a direct representation of me. If one of the characters was me then it would be harder to explore my thoughts without simply putting me on the page. (If that makes sense.) |

Thanks you so much for your generous thoughts.
The GGE site seems to be geared towards indie development, though there are a few bigger developers too. |

I feel like I've come across your comic at a really good moment. I haven't gotten through the archives yet, so I'm reading the beginning and the present simultaneously. Self-examination is good, transparency while you're donig it is better. 1 Reply [ Latest posted on January 29th, 2007 1:30 PM ]

Thanks.
I started writing the new stuff a couple of weeks ago and agonised over it. Is it too self-indulgent? Will I risk losing my readers? Is there any real point behind it? Etc...
We'll see. :) |

Thanks for the friend request. How's business? Being a freelance artist is one thing - I think I'd starve or explode if I tried both art and game design as a free lancer. 3 Replies [ Latest posted on January 25th, 2007 1:56 PM ]

Business is up and down, but fortunately I'm on an up at the moment and if my plans come to fruition it may continue for a little while at least.
I think I'd find it hard working full time for someone else as an employee. :) |

Hey, Steve, do you work alone on your games? We are struggling to put a small game together with four guys working on it. A lot of sweating going on at the Lounge! 5 Replies [ Latest posted on January 2nd, 2007 11:26 AM ]

[ Posted by Steve_Ince on Dec 28th, 2006 2:50 AM ]...
It varies. I created Mr. Smoozles Goes Nutso on my own (apart from the music) using a bought-in engine and tools. A game like Broken Sword is usually a big team effort with 30 or 40 people involved. A game is a lot of hard work and if you've never put one together before you have a lot of learning to do as part of the process. |
 |
[ Posted by illustrators_lounge on Dec 28th, 2006 8:32 AM ]...
Yes we do! But we are confident, I think we have the right people to put it together (eventually!)
What do you think about making a free game for the web? Do you think if it gets enough hits, the advertising and sponsors can possibly make it profitable? I see you sell your games yourself. How is that going for you?
I read an interview of yours last night, whilst browsing Just Adventure I think it was. Good stuff! |
 |
[ Posted by Steve_Ince on Jan 2nd, 2007 3:05 AM ]...
Sorry for not replying sooner, but I've been ill. :(
I hope you didn't think I was suggesting you couldn't do the game, just that it's bound to take you a while as you're learning the ropes as you go.
A free game will get you a lot of hits, but whether those visitors will click on the adverts to bring in the income is another matter, and one that I can't answer I'm afraid. Selling directly isn't going as well as I'd hoped, but there are a number of reasons why I think this is the case.
I'm glad you liked the interview. |

We fully realise that it will take us a very long time, so it's just one of those projects we pick up every so often when we have nothing else to do! Slowly does it. Thanks for letting us pick your brain by the way, we've really appreciated it! Do keep in touch, it's great to have someone of your experience in gaming to talk to! There are a few more people I've found on here who create their own games! It'd be great if we could all get together one day! There's only so much small group or individuals can do...imagine having a large group of people working on something together! That'll probably never happen, but it's a nice idea! Happy New Year by the way, and let us know how you are getting along. (Sorry for the long-ass reply!) |

I just had a look at your site, only to realise I'd been there many times before! Very cool. Checking out independant adventure games is a little 'hobby' of mine. Have you by chance seen 'The Aprentice' by a Herculean Effort? That really impressed me! I won't babble on for too long, after all this is supposed to be a comics site, isn't it?! 1 Reply [ Latest posted on December 27th, 2006 3:33 PM ]

I remember playing a demo of The Apprentice a few years ago and was impressed, too. There are a lot of great amateur adventures out there. Comics, games, they're both part of the mix that makes up our creative lives. :) |

Nice to meet another Brit up in here! We are planning to make a little point and click game for the web some time in the near future. Probably not your specialty, as those sort of games have died out...Anyway, swing by the Lounge some time! 3 Replies [ Latest posted on December 27th, 2006 3:13 PM ]

Point and click is very much my speciality! :) Most of the games I've been involved in are point and click, the most famous of which is Broken Sword. I'm currently in the middle of writing a point and click at the moment and hope to move onto another in a few months. If you have any design requirements you need filling... |

Wow, I loved Broken Sword. But for some reason my computer kept crashing on the same bit(the goat scene from what I remember!) Anyway, keep in touch, we'll have to look up on you soon! |

[ Posted by Steve_Ince on Dec 27th, 2006 3:13 PM ]...
Glad you liked the game. The goat scene stumped a lot of people but I wasn't aware of any crashes. Then again, I didn't really handle the tech support. :) |
