Well....I FINALLY got the long face from Dragon*Con re my application for guest status six months ago.

Hi Steven,

The quality and quantity of the applications makes the task a challenging one. Due to the tremendous number of applications received each year, the Guest Committee must often make difficult decisions regarding which applicants are accepted for guest status at the convention. A wide variety of factors are considered when making this determination, including which applicants have an overall "best fit" for the convention. As with any organization, our resources are not limitless and while we would like to extend guest status to you, we are unable to do so at this time. Unfortunately, due to the number of applications, we are unable to provide specific details behind all declines.

We wish you the very best in your pursuits, artistic and otherwise. We do hope that you will apply again in the future.

That's what I get for seven years of faithful attendance. That one part of me wants to rage greatly at Ms Hess, but another part of me is thankful as I don't have to shell out a grand just to make a c-note. I just hope they don't come at me around the end of the year requesting I apply for guest status for the 2009 event. They'll more than likely receive a reply with "bare it, stroke it, and run it up your Hershey Highway as far as it'll go" in it.

THAT is why I'm so thankful to attend events as I did this past Friday. Flyers, write-ups in two newspapers, name on the marquee, photo ops, an upcoming write-up in a newspaper, refreshments and groupies. Not bad for "the Great Unknown".
