| Bulletin: | I know it's been awhile since I've posted. Mainly because there hasn't been much news to post. When we last left our hero, he FINALLY received the long face from Dragon*Con. As a consolation, Ellen and I would be spending Labor Day Saturday at Galactic Comics & Games in Statesboro, Georgia. Rich was supposed to be with us, but he had to cancel as he was moving from Grand Junction to the Denver area. I guess I arrived at Galactic Comics & Games on the wrong date as few customers came to the store. Hokay, so there wasn't a line of fans to see one half of the creative team of Addlesee & Wright. In the meantime I'm inking the back cover of CARC & 'SLIDE #3. Then after I receive the introductions from Scott "calbeck" Malcomson and Mark "th' mole" Ashworth, I'll have three issues print-ready. I hope to find a RELIABLE, PROMPT and PROFESSIONAL publisher. If not, I'll self-publish under the Haul Ink banner. In the meantime, I'm less than 15 pages away from inking my 1,500th page, 313 of those pages over my own pencilwork. Someone asked me who were my influences. Heck...in my callow youth, there was Jack Kirby, but I liked the more realistic style of John Romita, Sr. Then in the early 70s, I wanted to draw like Rich Buckler, Sr. By the late 70s, I wanted to draw like John Byrne. When I was involved in small-press fandom in the early 80s, I wanted to draw like Willie Peppers. When I attended my first couple Atlanta Fantasy Fairs, I was informed during portfolio reviews I'd be better off as an inker. My all-time patron deity of inking was "Joltin'" Joe Sinnott. Fifteen years, nearly 75 published credits and nearly 1,500 pages later, I wonder if I left my mark in the industry. I remember my drawing in high school. I was kicked out of art class because I wanted to be a comic book artist instead of a "fine" artist. My art career has been quiet a ride. I always equate it to the labors of Hercules and the tortures of Prometheus. |
