Steven_Prouse
I am a comics writer and one of the founding members of 803 Studios, an independent publishing studio focused on promoting new talent and non-mainstream comics. We have published 3 anthologies and Sequential Suicide, an all new 88 page anthology showcasing new comics creators as well as a few other titles in 2007. I am the co-writer of The Ride:Savannah, a collaborative project between 12 Gauge Comics and SCAD where students in an '06 Sequential Arts class at SCAD completed one of three seven-page chapters of the story and competed against one another for inclusion in the Image release of the book. All of the work was phenomenal and the finalists were chosen for the April 18, 2007 release. In addition to the 21 page main story, I wrote a 12-page secondary story titled Savannah which Rob Grabe penciled. Amazing work. All proceeds from the sale of this issue will go to the SCAD Sequential Art Scholarship Fund so please have your local comics shops order The Ride:Savannah and support 12 Gauge and Image Comics by buying this book so that they'll keep doing projects like this! On a side note, Rob Grabe also created the artwork for my book Coin Operated Boy. For a preview of that book, check out 803 Studios' publications page. Knowledge Is Power: The World Askew four-issue story arc releasing through Diamond starting in May's PreviewsThere exists an ancient text containing forgotten knowledge that will reshape the world. What would you do to get it? Dr. Jennifer Meaus, a professor at the University of Miami, learns the dangers of knowledge while translating a book that could be the oldest written work known to man. The compass turns in on Miami as key players in a secret war move to lay claim to the book including the homicidal leader of an underground vampire cult. A story in the vein of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, K.I.P. sports dynamic art by Rob Hicks (Arcana Studios Ezra) and Keith Barnett (Dark Horse Comics, Caliber Comics) with an amazing set of covers by Ty Romsa (James Bond: Casino Royale). Check some preview pages of K.I.P.Preview Pg 1Preview Pg 2Preview Pg 3Preview Pg 4Seqential Suicide Line Up AnnouncedTake a look at a few preview images and read about this great collection of new comics talent and please pick up the book when it comes out. Steve;
Thanks for the add! I got my copies of SS last week. They look great! I think I am going to order more shortly.
As for By the Blade - it's truckin along. Thomas White - the letterer for the Confessional - is just making a couple of changes and issue one is completed. Pencils for Issues 2 and 3 are done, and inks for 2 are underway!

Awesome, Grant. That's good to hear. What are you doing with it? Is it soliciting anywhere? |
 |
[ Posted by CapeandCowl on Mar 16th, 2007 3:26 PM ]...
Steve;
Actually, I have not found a home for By the Blade yet.
Originally, the idea was to do the basic submission stuff - you know 10 pages of finished art and the like. But I quickly found out that smaller publishers often want to see more than that before they will pick up a project. So at the moment, I am getting the first three issues produced myself (out of my own pocket) and hopefully can find a publisher who is interested. I've got a solid, experienced art team in place, and as I noted before, issue #1 is completed and the pencils for #2 and #3 are done....so I am just starting to gear up to a find a publisher now..... |

Been working on some inking and lettering for a comic called Sky Pirates. Here's a link to the writer's gallery: http://www.comicspace.com/evnsue96/comics.php?acti on=gallery&comic_id=582
I'm also working on a comic for Dimestore's comic competition. We're through the first round and workin' up our stuff for round 2. http://http://www.dimestoreproductions.com/Ninja-G arden.html
Other than that stuff, I've been busy being sick for the last week and a half, which sucks.
Keep in touch, dude. |

Thanks for the props on Grafitti (I know it's spelled wrong). I put a lot of what I personally have to say into the design of the script and the pages as a whole. I was fortunate enough to work with some great artists that helped to bring that to life. I've looked at your work before. I really enjoy the line work you display. |

[ Posted by illustrators_lounge on Feb 3rd, 2007 5:13 PM ]...
I always get confused with graffiti myself, I'm glad I got it right..? Anyway, I was sure you had something to do with how it was drawn, it's one of those comics that in places is written visually, which I love. Thanks for checking us out, and I hope you get more work done soon!

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed. K.I.P. is my fun pet project. I have the first three, soon to be four, issues of the introductory four-issue story arc out now and breaking the seal was just a taste of what's to come in the seventh story arc. |

You're working with Mia? I'M working with Mia! This is a strange surprise. She's told me a little about what she's doing right now ... are you working with her on the vertigo project she's coloring? Small factoid - I am possibly confussed on everything she's involved with so I'm sorry if I get it wrong. -__-; I'm toning her book, Paintings of You. [iris press] Mia is AWESOME. Congratulations on getting to work with her. Sorry to say though I don't know anyone else you just named. ... I've only been there a year though and I'm undergrad. 1 Reply [ Latest posted on December 22nd, 2006 3:35 PM ]

We're working on a book for a Vertigo pitch. It's not definite through Vertigo and I'm almost tempted to take to Ape or someplace like that instead just to keep the indie feel. I'm looking forward to Paintings of You. Mia's amazing. Here's hoping to run into all of the SCAD cats at Megacon. |

It all makes sense now... you were the one that put on that anthology that had to be about a car! I had a friend named Joy that submitted because her introduction to sequential class made it an assignment. Two words: SMALL. WORLD. You've got me curious now, who all have you worked with from SCAD? 1 Reply [ Latest posted on December 21st, 2006 10:19 AM ]

I actually only wrote it for 12 Gauge. I've worked with Mike Bear and know Kristian Donaldson though our project never got off the ground. Right now, I'm working with Rob Grabe and Mia Paluzzi. |
