I was first exposed to comics back in the early sixties, when I was a tyke and Marvel came out with Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Thor, and the Avengers -- all of which I collected. My friends and I would be at the local candy store every Tuesday and Thursday with the money we'd earned from our paper routes, and waited while the store proprietor opened the bales of new comics he'd received from the distributor. It was as if Christmas arrived twice a week.

These days, I make my living as an IT professional for a large government agency. However I also make comics on the side. My main comic is Witchthorn , and I collaborate on Whipshadow with the very talented Eric Robinson. Unfortunately, I have to draw, ink, color and letter the comics around a pretty demanding work schedule, so I am able to produce 3 pages per week. I wish I had the time to do three pages per day, but...

People always tell me my style is "old school" -- that's because I'm an old guy. I grew up loving Kirby, Ditko, Wood, Buscema, Romita and Kane. Everything I've ever been able to do is because I stole something from one of them. Never a "swipe", but a reference as to how they did that energy blast, or that bullet whizzing by, or those machines! They were the greatest ever, and I am proud to name them as my major influences.

I recently added The Nullifiers to my portfolio. It's available here, and on Drunk Duck, and on The Nullifiers. I'm also doing the art for a fun project that Luis-Gabriel Leal has created called The Red Phantom. The first story takes place in New York's Chinatown in the late 1930's. In my real job, I work on a team with two ethnic Chinese dudes and they have been after me for months to add a Chinese character to one of my strips, so now they're both happy LOL. The strip promises to be a melange of The Spirit, Hellboy, The Shadow and the darker versions of Batman. I'm really psyched about the project. It will update once a month here on Comicspace at Gabriel's Comicspace page. So get over there and check it out!

Hi, how are you? Our studio recently put a new site up. pencily.com is a great source of inspiration for illustrators, animators and designers, so I hope you find it as useful as we do!

All the best,

this is really good, fun stuff. The art reminds me of Kirby and Ayres stuff from back when. And it's really pulpy as well. Come check out my stuff and see what you think.

Not to be too shameless, but I'd like to point you to my current comic Dusk - http://dusk.ambrosiapublishing.com/. I'm honestly looking for good solid feedback on the story. I'm even willing to make trades for reviews and/or exposure. I'd be willing to do link swaps or even write a script in trade.
