So here's the thing. After careening through several jobs over the last 10 years or so, I finally decided to bite the bullet and go back to what I love doing. Sure, that'd be lowbrow humour, nerd pursuits, writing, editing and cartooning and demonstrating why it is (through begrudging mutual agreement) I have been labelled by friends as a 'suppository of pop culture'. Yeah, suppository. I said 'lowbrow', remember?

This meant taking the plunge into freelance writing and managing a magazine part-time on potatoes of all things. And actually drawing up a comic strip. Just to see what I can do with it.

Here's the link. Check it out!

It's one of those magic 'I'm going to live my dream' kinda things. The strip's basically a semi-autobiographical rant against the call-centre environment, which I did have some experience with. My opportunity to vent and see what people think of it. (Hey, it's gotta be better than verbally brutalising everyone who crosses my path, doesn't it?) ;)

Anyway, so far on this site I've seen a lot of talented people doing the same sort of thing. And while I'm cringing at the idea of posting my stuff up against some of the really slick, well-produced stuff I've seen, what the hell?

And if anyone wants to give me some feedback, suggestions or tips on how to improve my technique, it'd be the next best thing to waking up and finding out Jar Jar Binks was in fact a cruel joke, never in a Star Wars movie and a young Darth Vader never wore lip gloss (in the second one, you tell me he isn't! ahem. A rant for another day).

I love comic books, I know way too much about fantasy and sci-fi. I'm shamelessly living the stereotype. See you around, hopefully.

Surviving the windowless, relentless grind of callcentre life takes a special kind of person: numb, broken, devoid of anything resembling pride or enthusiasm.

It's the feverdream of an escaped worker drone who'd love any feedback on the strip. :)
