I'm 32 years old and the owner of Super-Fly Comics & Games. In addition to being a retailer who loves to look beyond the big 2 for good comics, I'm also a writer. I'm working on one comic series already with an artist, but as I wait for the art to be finished on that, I'm looking into getting a couple of other projects connected with artists and out the gate, as well as trying to find an agent for my novel.

I've broken a lot of toes trying to get my foot in the door, but I'll keep hobbling around.

I'm a fan of genre fiction, specifically horror and SF. I love supernatural adventure (Hellboy, Buffy) and space opera (Star Trek, Honor Harrington novels), but also have a soft spot for some fantasy (early Dragonlance, D&D, less so Warcraft) although I hate the snooty, pretentious feel high fantasy can have.

My current favorites in comics right now are Matt Fraction (favorites include Casanova, Inv. Iron Man), Jason Aaron (Scalped, Ghost Rider), Brian Wood (DMZ, Northlanders), Brian Vaughn (Ex Machina, Runaways), Geoff Johns (Action Comics, Green Lantern), Bendis (still enjoy Avengers, Ult. Spider-Man), Joe Hill (Locke & Key was amazing), Ed Brubaker (Criminal, Gotham Central), Warren Ellis (Nextwave, Planetary) and Jonathan Hickman (Pax Romana, The Core).

My taste in artists is pretty varied. I like the simple line work of guys like Darwyn Cooke and Bruce Timm, but also the more stylized people like Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba, as well as the traditionalists like George Perez, Jim Lee and Mark Bagley. As long as it tells the story well, the people are expressive and the layouts are dynamic. I prefer an artists that can convey the drama and tension of a conversation as well as a knife fight. I like a lot of bizarre violence and twisty concepts that are held together with solid character work and interaction. I like writing dialogue, and try not to map out every inch of every panel, preferring to leave the specific detail work to the artist. I tend to work with a lot of panels, because I want to get as much story in the 22 pages as possible.

Most of all, I want to get the stories in my head out there, as well as help people sell the ones that they've put out there for us to read. Ultimately, quality is king and it should be rewarded.
