"...an up-and-coming writer that's doing it right."That's how Jason Rodriguez, editor of Postcards: True Stories That Never Happened, recently characterized me. I like to think he got it right, because I love writing comic books. There's nothing I enjoy more than working with a talented artist to bring a story to life. So far, I've had the pleasure of crafting stories with fantastic artists such as Juan Romera, Renzo Podesta, Noel Tuazon (of the Harvey-nominated Elk's Run), and Marvin Mann (of the also-Harvey-nominated The Lone and Level Sands). If you're an artist who is as passionate about telling stories as I am, I'd love to talk to you. The stories I write are generally real-world, character-driven drama – except when they’re zany retro comedy or high-concept summer blockbuster or creepy horror or something else that tickles my creative fancy! Heck, I’ve even got a couple of superhero stories in me, given the right artist. I've had stories published this year in 803 Studios' Sequential Suicide anthology and Frameworks: A Study in Sequential Art. This fall, I'll have not one but two stories published in the Eagle, Eisner, and Harvey Award-nominated anthology, Negative Burn. Next year, I'm on tap to have stories published in a major anthology by Random House/Villard and an anthology titled Dear Santa, Let Me Explain... that James W. Powell, assistant editor of Postcards, is putting together. So, that's the August 2007 version of "Who is Elton Pruitt?" Fall of the Triumvirate
My first published work, "Fall of the Triumvirate," is a short story about guilt, redemption, and hope. It was published in 803 Studios' Sequential Suicide anthology in the spring of 2007.

TWILIFE
Derek Hart is not a monster. He's just a guy, like you or me. He's got a girlfriend he loves, a best friend he likes, and a job he tolerates.
And a gnawing, wrenching hunger for human flesh.

Thanks, Gonzalo! I appreciate the kind words on my stories. "This Is Where I Am" is a story of which I'm quite proud, so it's nice to be able to share it with people and get some positive feedback on it.

Thanks, Brant. I thought your interview was really good, too. Howard's definitely getting some decent coverage on this, so hopefully that'll help move some books! |

Is there more to that Twilife story? That was awesome - glad I read it as the only writing I have read to date has been in your column. The timing/ pacing was dead-on (pun, get it). The page turns, the beats ... they all just flowed. Great job on the script. The art is stunning too. 2 Replies [ Latest posted on March 15th, 2007 1:36 AM ]

Thanks for the kind words on Twilife, Jason. That is all there is to see for now. I sent it in to a publisher last week, so my fingers are crossed. Time will tell... |

Good luck with that. I actually hate zombies - they freak me out, but your story was really compelling. The dialogue was great too.
Poor me, I am still at work ... Should go home soon. |

yeah, we should talk shop sometime! It's cool to find other comic creators so close by.
Your Dead Eyes Open preview pages look cool, as well as your other zombie art on your site. I've got a gallery here on comicspace with a 16 page story (submission, actually) called Twilife that you might enjoy (or not -- who can say?)!
Anyway, three cheers for Little Rock and comic books! |

Hi there! We’re starting up this year’s Small Press Idol…and wanted to invite you to the grand unveiling of this year’s Guidelines. I apologize for the all-in-one nature of this. At this time, individuals and teams have a little over a month to get things together and be ready to post their Round 1 entries. Round 1 will last till March 25th. It’s a solid window to get a project together and qualified for Round 2 past our judge panel. If you are interested in being a contestant, this is fair warning to get a project going! If you are a news outlet or resource of any sort, we invite you to help spread the word about Small Press Idol, and get on the official Sponsors and Supporters list on the Idol Main Page. Traditionally, the page has gotten hundreds of thousands of hits a month for the 5 months the contest runs. All we ask in return for the link placement on our prominently placed list, is a link back in some way that is fairly prominent, and that you indeed cover the contest if you are a news site. You can contact us about that right from the guidelines page. Just want to watch the show? That’s great! Now is time to sign up at the site so you can VOTE in the rounds to come, and post comments about your favorites! We’re expecting hundreds of contestants this year. It should be a lot of fun!
http://www.dimestoreproductions.com/SmallPressIdol /Idol07/index.html
Hope this message reaches you in the spirit it was intended, you are welcome to ask questions, and otherwise make sure this is for real. This is the fourth year for the SPI. Last year’s contest pages are still online. So that’s what this is about, hope it interests you!
