Hi! I'm Mallory Smith, a writer/artist from Bristol, UK and the owner & matriarch of The Fallen Angel Media - A small press printing service and publishing house. I write, draw and publish several of my own books, stories and strips and most can be seen from our website here and in our twice yearly compilation 'Left of Centre' (issues 1 to 3 now on sale at our Web Store).
We specialize in printing low count print runs for small press comics, books and 'zines at a price everyone can afford.
If you have any projects that you think we might be interested in or just need to contact us Click here to send email

The Fallen Angel Media is both proud and privileged to announce we will be hosting Small Press Expo 2009 on the 9th of May 2009 in the city of Bristol, UK.
With the focus firmly on established and up & coming small press and Indy talent, this one day event will be running in connection with the
Bristol International Comic Expo as part of an exceptional weekend of art, creativity, community spirit and comic book fun.
Guests include: Kevin O'Neill, Gilbert Shelton, Hunt Emerson, Shaky Kane & Roger Langridge and we have plenty of exciting events and panels planned for the whole day!
Check out the SPExpo website for venue details, events and exhibitor booking information.

Well, it's been an age since i last updated the 'ol comic space site and for that i apologize. In my defense though it's been a crazy crazy year and working hideous hours trying to create and then build a business has left me with very little time left and just keeping my own website updated has been a major chore let alone all the 'satellite' sites we have dotted around the place.
Still, things are finally slotting into place and a solid routine has been established which is leaving me with a bit more space to reinstate these things :)

So! what's been happening? Well, firstly our printing services business is going great guns - we launched it at the BICS show last year to great success and have been going hell for leather ever since.
I'm finally starting to get my crew back in line and between us there are 6 books planned for release this year alone - 2 at the UK Thing in March, 2 at the SPExpo in May (more on that in a minute) and then another 2 for BICS in Oct.

Our big news though is that we are hosting Small Press Expo 2009 in May. This has all come about after this years Bristol show was scaled down owing to venue problems and the general economic climate here in the UK which meant that a lot of small press and indie artists couldn't attend as there was simply not enough space.
I saw myself in a position to help out here and after some talks with the wonderful Mike Allwood, SPExpo was born and 5 days later it was all official and had the momentum of a greased up bull down a ski ramp!
It's hard to express how much fun i'm having organizing the show and to say that i'm looking forward to it would be a complete understatement. It's going to be something really special....

Apart from that we have a very full schedule of shows this year - Exeter Expo, UK Thing, SPExpo, BICS, Thought Bubble are all lined up and i fully expect there will be a couple more in the works before the year is out. As ever, check the FAM site for more details.
I've also uploaded some more comic pages on here, the end of High Maintenance chapter 3 is finally up but you're going to have to wait a while for the next one. HM is on hold till the middle of this year while i sort out some art and script issues that i'm not happy with but it will return and in a much improved form.
I've posted up the first 15 pages of my manga style series HM High. It's an origin story in some ways with a couple of the characters from the main HM comic but it's a comedy/drama and the overall feel is a lot lighter and is aimed at all ages (unlike HM which is definitely adults only).
I'll hopefully have some more stuff up later this month.

That's about it for now really :)

Hi! Thanks for the add aaages ago. Your art style is so suitable for the work you do; I'm loving how bold you are with black and white.

Not sure what pointers i could give you, you certainly don't need any help with the art!! If you're looking to start a real comic of any sorts though, what i would say is try not to fall into any pre-assigned category (Gamer/D&D/Super-hero etc), they world has enough of those already and it's only the truly original ideas that tend to stand out from the crowd :)

Hey, ive started YET ANOTHER project XD, a comicspace exclusive called Imperium. Was gonna do another Eugene Manx page but the Renault 4CV is annoying to draw. Of course i could have given the character with it a different, squarer car but i'm hard on myself XD

Haha... what is it about comic creators and the fact that we can't sit still for 10 minutes and finish anything without starting something new :P
Still, it's nice to know that you're worse than me at it.. hehe
Then again, i'm just starting another new one too so i'm not really one to talk...

Heh, i was just now MSN'ing the "bird" i mentioned on saturday and she thought the whole incident was hilarious XD

Thanks for the kind words-if only I could sell a few more of my books I'd be a happy bunny. I really liked your 'Thing' contribution, one of the few that kept me engaged and entertained all the way through.

Get well soon *snoogle* XD. I had a dream last night about going to the UK Webcomix thing XD, except for some reason i came all the way to your house first and we left there about an hour after it started hoping to get there in time XD

Thank you for the compliments on our books! And thanks for being our comicspace friend, take care!

Thanks for the kind words! I checked through the whole archive on HM. I like the way you take a few clichés and give them entirely new twists. Cool stuff!
