Originally from New York City, I was visiting the offices of Marvel Comics when I was 12 years old (hoping to get a job as a comic book writer) when I was bitten by a radioactive Stan Lee.
Disoriented (and strangely elated), I returned home and promptly fell into a deep coma that lasted for nine days. When I awoke, I discovered that I had gained the ability to transform my body into pixels and transport myself into the Marvel Universe, simply by concentrating upon a comic book panel and willing myself there. When I’m in the Marvel Universe, I’m able to teleport (a la Nightcrawler, but without the foul odor) to any scene that has been written and illustrated, and interact “in between panels” with any Marvel character I choose. I can also wander around, unseen by characters and readers, within the panels. (Spider-Man once told me that I’m kind of like The Watcher with a more hands-on approach and a normal-sized head.) I have tried, unsuccessfully, to visit the DCU (and, once, a panel from Zap! Comix) which leads me to conclude that my ability is exclusively limited to the Marvel Universe. The most logical hypothesis I’ve come up with is that the properties of Stan Lee’s radioactive saliva contain “memes” (units of cultural information transferable from one mind to another) that convey only the blueprint of the universe he created.
