The first Thrill Seeker Comics 8-page short story appeared in Shooting Star Comics Anthology #1 (August 2002) by writer/artist Scott McCullar (Green Arrow Secret Files). This adventure series features a pulp era vigilante named the YELLOW JACKET: MAN OF MYSTERY ™.

Joining him on his adventures many times is the Golden Age EMERALD MANTIS™. Like his grandfathers before him, Dr. Xiaowen Li dons the mask of the heroic Chinese protector of the people. In the decades after the Second World War, his own son and eventually his grandson, each skilled in the martial arts, would also wear the mask.

The Thrill Seeker Comics feature appeared in all six issues of Shooting Star Comics Anthology and Fanzing Presents: Job Wanted as a series of well received short 8-page black and white two-fisted tales that paid homage to archetypal stories in comics, serials and films of yesteryear -- with all new twists.

All seven stories were published in comic books bearing the Shooting Star Comics logo and there remains a handful of stories that are unpublished. With the dissolution of Shooting Star Comics, LLC in December 2006, creator Scott McCullar intends to revamp and self-publish all new tales in the new year under his own Thrill Seeker Comics publishing banner.

Thanks to the wonders of this Comicspace website, I've had the chance to connect with Dave Ryan at Red Anvil Comics. Next summer, the Yellow Jacket: Man of Mystery will make a guest appearance to join a multitude of other independent comic book heroes (including Savage Dragon, Shi, Bedbug, Jetta, and more) in a MASSIVE Independent crossover, 4 issue mini-series to be co-published with Red Anvil Comics and Arcana and follow a 4 issue lead-in series called Penance.
