Hi my name is Toby
been drawing since I saw Starwars
started using felt tips after I saw Tron
leaving childhood, I walked into the realms of Bladerunner and Dune (Lynch)
then it was werewolves (the Howling and american werewolf...)
then I got into zombies and aliens
you could say films were an influence!

then I got some anatomy books by Burne Hogarth

everything changed when I started buying 2000AD
Bisley was drawing ABC Warriors, Fabry doing Slaine and Hicklenton on Nemesis the warlock.
Chopper by MacNeil stays with me.
then there was tank girl and the dark knight returns and, actually year one and killing joke were bloody good too
Peter Chung's Aeon Flux wowed me aswell.
Street of Crocodiles by the Brothers Quay messed me up a bit...
Oh well I can't think of any other influences at the moment

All I can say is that I used to draw quite alot
then I started playing guitar and got really into music
some of my electronic instrumental stuff: http://www.myspace.com/ichiboom

Anyway i've been getting back into drawing and comics because i've been doing caricatures
i also just got given a script for Futurequake so i'll see where that takes me

T

Ooh, I just remembered some more, and how could I forget; Moebius, Katsuhiro Otomo, Geoff Darrow, Masamune Shiro, Chester Brown, Q Hayashida, Robert Crumb, Travis Charest and of course; Bengus.

silly me.

Your 'newer stuff' has a very cool Frank Quietly feel. I dig.

Hey Toby,

Thanks for the really positive comments, to me
the story makes the comic, am still trying to get
a consistent style for my art work down though.

How's the work for Futurequake going? Are you doing
a series of your own or just artwork?
I am "unemployed" at the moment, just started sending
out series proposals to some US publishers, see how that
goes. All the best with your pitching to 2000AD.

Cheers,
Ivan

No problem
The Futurequake thing has been squatting in the corner impatiently awaiting attention.
I'm just doing a little more DIY in the kitchen then I'll get stuck in.

No, a very nice chap has given me an intriguing script set on Mars...it'll be printed in September.
It's a really good chance to get noticed so I better give it my all.

I do have a few ideas for a 2000AD story but nothing concrete.
I come up with great scenes then after a moment I realize I've seen the same thing in a film.
I've probably seen too many.
It seems the more information I get, the harder it is to be original.
Maybe I should just leave that job to the writers

I can't believe that you're unemployed.
It's just a matter of time.

Always remember that "if you keep doing what you are doing then you'll get more of what you've got"

I think your stuff is great too
You know what I like best about your work?
It's the faces and the hands, very strong and expressive.
