| Header: | VC Forum Newsletter - Mimir's Word #1 | ||
| Bulletin: | Good evening everyone, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! Allow me to welcome you to the new and improved VC Forum Newsletter, Mimir's Word! This revision was made to cut down on the multiple E-Mails per week, which were used to announce new events and updates to the VC Network. Instead, now you'll be receiving one E-Mail per week with all the updates held within, announcing Art Battles/Jams, new interviews and reviews, as well as additions to the Lil' Gods web comic and updates to the store! I hope you enjoy reading these, as much as I enjoy writing them. If you ever have any suggestions for this newsletter or any of the services/products that I offer, please feel free to contact me via the forum or at kevin@valhallacomics.com. I'll be happy to listen and possibly make some changes/updates. Anyway, on with the news... Valhalla Comics' Discussion Forum: 1. I wanted to remind you guys that we're still running the Holiday Character Battle here: http://forum.valhallacomics.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=971 Don't forget that if you win this battle, you'll receive free advertising on the valhallacomics.com main site, in the rotating banner. Each banner has around 15,000 views at the moment, and that count began only a month ago. Of course, you'll also be able to choose a custom title of your liking, and change anyone else's to whatever you want. The deadline for entry is: 01/12/2008. 2. I just instituted a new type of jam, called "Sketch of the Week." Every week, I'll be posting a new subject that will merely require a sketch/rough drawing of whatever the subject is. This week is "Anatomy of a Woman," and you can enter your sketches/roughs here: http://forum.valhallacomics.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=985 3. There's another jam type that I've instituted just a couple of weeks ago. I was going to make it a weekly jam, but realized that it should be allotted more time. That jam is called "Concept of the Month" and it will be run once per month. This will now require a finished piece, based on the month's concept subject. The first month was "Guerrilla Warfare," and can be viewed here: http://forum.valhallacomics.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=944 The next subject will be "Rulers of Hell," where you will be asked to create a finished piece of a demonic being who rules hell/the underworld/etc from any religion/mythology, or from your imagination. If you should like to think up new ideas for the Concept Jams, please post them here: http://forum.valhallacomics.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=945 4. You'll notice that there have been some changes on the forum, such as missing forums. Not to worry! We're not missing any threads, I just condensed some of the forums into one, to make the forum less bulky and more friendly. All of the art jams and battles (whether they're started by you, or started by me) will be in one Forum. Same goes for the writing jams and battles. Valhalla Comics' Sagas O' Scrutiny: 1. Headed by Anton Curley, the Sagas continue with its' third comic book review! Great job Anton, your effort is much appreciated and definitely enjoyed. I, for one, will be checking out Proof, that's for sure. Check out the newest reviews here: http://reviews.valhallacomics.com/ Valhalla Comics' Mug O' Mead: 1. We've hit something of a hiatus as of late, thanks to the holidays... hey, I'm not complaining... just saying! I'm actually going to switch this up a bit and keep them coming as they're completed. No more of this weekly stuff, as it gets pretty frustrating and stressful. The problem is that respondents really don't respond that well and it really backs me up in editing the interview and finally posting it. So, I've decided to nick the deadlines I've been holding myself to. The next interview I'll be posting, which JUST finished up tonight will be Jonnie Allen, the creator of Stykman. That should be up sometime this week, so keep a look out! The next interview will be from Buz Hasson and Ken Haeser, of The Living Corpse fame, and following that will be our own John Rauch, renowned and ultra-talented colorist for all kinds of titles/work. Of course, you can read these interviews here: http://mugoblog.valhallacomics.com Valhalla Comics' Lil' Gods Web-Comic: 1. Coloring has become sporadic as of late, with the switch up of comic strips that I've posted. We're 3 episodes into it, and I'm posting the 4th one this week. You can read the miscellaneus adventures of Thor and his buddies here: http://comics.valhallacomics.com/lilgods.php Episode 3 should be colored w/ some flats this week, but episode 4 will be in full color this week, so keep a look out! =] Valhalla Comics' Online Store: 1. I'm not an official carrier of Blueline Comic Art Boards and currently offer about 4 different types, along with sketch cards. My prices are actually very competitive, so if you're looking for art boards, stop on by the store and check them out! =] I also carry comic supplies, such as bags/boards, as well as carry a hefty load of back issue comics. New releases will begin in February, but pre-orders for March will begin in January, so keep a look out for those, as well! Here's a list of comic art supplies: http://www.valhallacomics.com/home.php?cat=1154 2. If you want, you can start up a subscription to available titles in the store. You need to create an account, and the subscription service is free. It merely allows me to know what everyone would like to buy and informs you of when new released titles, that you're subscribed to, is added to the store. You're not tied to buying any of the titles you subscribe to, it's just a helpful tool that provides me to hold those titles for you for about a month. If you don't buy them within a month, they're added into inventory and sold to wheover wants it. Check it out and let me know what you think! Here's a link to the subscription service (you must be logged in to add/remove titles): http://www.valhallacomics.com/subscriptions.php 3. Some of you might be aware that I have an Artist Alley portion of my online store. This is another venue you can tap to push your art to consumers. For a 15% commission fee, you can sell your prints, original art, posters, sketchbooks, etc to anyone that visits the store. There's a very simplistic adding process for products. This is moderated by me, though, so I'll be able to keep an eye on what's yours and what's not, to protect the rights of the original artists, as well as keep a check on quality control. That means that not everyone is accepted in the Artist Alley. There are some restrictions... one is your artistic ability and my opinion of what may sell. There is no contract, so that means you can sell what you want, where you want (on the site or off it), and you can cancel your account anytime you want. You're not charged for registering or having an account, you're only charged for what sells. So, if you sell something for $25, I will receive: $3.75, and you will receive $21.25. I will provide you with the shipping information of where the item needs to be sent, and will send a check or PayPal your earnings to you in a lump sum, once per week, along with any shipping costs that have accrued. The lump sum is due to the fact that I'm limited to the amount of checks I currently have, and to order more is pretty expensive. Here's a link to the Artist Alley: http://www.valhallacomics.com/artist_alley_gateway.php Sign up and give it a shot! What do you have to lose? I think that concludes the new and improved Valhalla Comics Newsletter, Mimir's Word, for this week, Be at your feet for next week, as I'm sure there will be more to discuss! Take care and have a great holiday season, everyone, and again... Happy New Year! -Kevin |
