"Does anyone remember 'The Puma Blues', or did I hallucinate the entire 1980s indie comic scene? God I'm old. I think I just upchucked a B&W issue of TMNT."

About me

Let's face it, I hate to talk about myself. It's not a recent shyness or desire to conceal that drives this hate, it's simply the fact that I (like so many others) am a private person. The web is hostile environment numero uno when it comes to personal information. That's one of the reasons I don't really post alot of it.

My second reason is even simpler and a realization a long time in coming: People don't fit into little boxes that say 'interests' and 'about me' very well. Me checking the box that says I'm caucasian, or that I have 'some college' doesn't begin to describe me any more than it would anybody else. If you like boxes take the Meyers-Briggs or something. I require long and complicated explanations myself, and likely so do you when it comes right down to it.

Third, I'd rather you take the time to get to know me. I know the world moves very quickly these days.. slow down.

If you still want to get to know me then check out this, or this. I update them somewhat.

Some of my other works

Alot of what I've listed below is kind of old, but much of it is loved enough to be posted here. The following is a list of links to web comics I published some time ago on my personal site. The site itself is changing hosts, and will receive a major update within the next several months in order to celebrate. Further explanations of these strips (many of which remain unfinished) can be found at Cleopatra Graphics.

In the meantime here is the list accompanied by some brief descriptions concerning subject material:

Susie Q: A Song of Winter- tale of two ancient celts caught in a cycle of death and rebirth. Epic narrative. First hundred or so pages. Make sure you read the brief text portions or you'll miss like half the story.

Blue Fish- short fiction ghost story.

Cleo.- a detective and a beat cop room together (largely unfinished).

The Letter- short fiction competition piece.

Land of Confusion- newspaper strip experiment. Humor piece about aliens coming to earth.

Meera- newspaper strip experiment. Life of a married couple as seen through the windows of their house.

One final note on all of the above. For those of you who have read the piece which I have posted on comicspace.com and enjoyed it, please read the preceding strips with an open mind as many are unfinished and all consist of early experiments in the medium of sequential art. Know only that I loved writing and drawing them all and several will be revisited on future dates.

On befriending me

You will find in your dealings with me that I will generally take the aspect of this site that is befriending about as seriously as it deserves to be taken. That is not to say that there aren't warm feelings behind every click I make to 'accept'. But if someone is being humorous about the process they should expect the same in return.

I won't necessarily go looking for friends, but all are welcome without expectations or requirements. Most of us just want to see what each of the people we tag here are up to. When they update we simply want to be informed through the automated systems available on this site. Its no big deal. I'm proud to help rather than hinder that process, you should be too.

RE: What are we all doing wrong?

As one who spent time in the fine art world, in the business side, my humble opinion of it is that it is the best scam going. 'Curators' and 'experts' will tell you about 'important' works that you must have in your collection, and for which they will be paid a hefty commission. It's all BS (caps on purpose, for emphasis). Only when people begin to understand that all art is subjective and each person enjoys different things, will they understand that you should buy what you love, and what moves you, not what is being sold to you. If you love Harold Hitchcock, or Henry Scott Tuke, then buy the work, if you can afford it. If you love sketches by your favorite cartoon artist, then buy it. There is no other reason to buy art than the pure fact that is shifts your spirit. Ask Sly Stallone how his experience worked for him, in the 80s and 90s, when he bought all of the 'important' work in his collection. Anyone remember that bogus artist who had other people make the paintings and then he signed them, admitted he didn't do them and still made money hand over fist? Hmmmm? Anyone?

For me, Picasso was incompetent, and for others he was a genius. Everyone else's opinion of him fits somewhere in between those two extremes. Buy what you love, and remember that professors usually have a firmer handle on opinions than they do on talent.

Cuisine is brilliant! Do you mind if I use it with my college students when we look at cultural barriers and discuss American Born Chinese?
